L’evoluzione dei film - ma più in generale di tutti i materiali da imballaggio come inchiostri, adesivi e solventi - unita all’incremento delle potenzialità delle linee di estrusione di PE e di BOPP e delle macchine da stampa e accoppiamento, ha trainato lo sviluppo della tecnologia del trattamento corona.

«All’inizio della nostra attività - spiega Armando Mennucci che, a dispetto della giovane età, partecipa al business dell’azienda di proprietà con competenza ed entusiasmo - la tecnologia del trattamento corona era impiegata fondamentalmente dai produttori di film. Ma la necessità di ottimizzare l’impiego di sempre nuovi materiali flessibili, modificandone le caratteristiche superficiali in funzione delle operazioni di stampa e accoppiamento, ha portato alla diffusione di questi dispositivi anche presso i converter. Così, oltre a specializzarci sulle linee a grande luce (fino a 10 m, come nel caso degli impianti di coestrusione per BOPP), abbiamo ampliato la nostra offerta con attrezzature in grado di operare alle velocità di macchina attuali, che arrivano fino a 600 m/minuto».
Potenza sotto controllo
Molto tempo fa Prometeo giocava con fuoco (e mal gliene incolse...).
Oggi, per fortuna c’è qualcuno, come Me.ro che riesce a generare campi di energia, padroneggiandoli in modo da piegarli a esigenze molto “terrene”. E che, muovendosi con grande libertà e competenza in quest’ambito tecnico, ha saputo anche differenziare le proprie linee di prodotto, fino a fare la storia di molte applicazioni.
«Ormai, tutti i nostri generatori di potenza, dal più al grande al più piccolo – aggiunge Mennucci – sono dotati di moduli IGBT, caratterizzati da un’alta velocità di commutazione e basse perdite che, insieme alla configurazione di circuiti di potenza, assicurano un rendimento elevato e una completa autoprotezione in caso di sovraccarichi accidentali. Ma c’è di più: la stazione di trattamento è provvista di un terminale operatore che, oltre alla diagnostica generale, consente di regolare la potenza specifica di scarica, garantendo la costanza dei parametri impostati anche in caso di mutamenti delle condizioni operative, provocati da variazioni di velocità di macchina, di tensione, umidità e temperatura. In questo modo i parametri dei nostri impianti di trattamento corona vengono definiti esclusivamente in base alle caratteristiche dei materiali da trattare, permettendo all’operatore di richiamare a computer la ricetta relativa a un determinato prodotto, prescindendo dalle condizioni operative contingenti».
Affidabilità e sicurezza
Altro “filo conduttore” che lega la produzione Me.ro nel suo complesso è l’alto senso di responsabilità nei confronti della gestione di sistemi che, per la loro natura intrinseca, devono essere studiati con grande attenzione, sia dal punto di vista progettuale che costruttivo. Ecco perché, al di là di semplici ragioni di riservatezza, l’azienda continua a progettarli e a montarli in proprio, delegando all’esterno la realizzazione di pochi elementi di carpenteria.
«Di recente, ad esempio, per quanto riguarda le stazioni di scarica mono e bilaterali, abbiamo realizzato rulli di alluminio con rivestimento superficiale di ceramica conduttiva che, non ossidandosi, garantiscono una maggiore durata».
Più in generale, uno dei motivi di maggior impegno per Me.ro è sempre quello di rendere i propri sistemi “amichevoli”, intervenendo a monte per offrire le massime garanzie di sicurezza operativa e gestionale.
«Non va dimenticato – precisa Mennucci – che le stazioni di trattamento corona generano ozono; ecco perché lavoriamo a migliorare costantemente le modalità di abbattimento del gas attraverso filtri chimici e dispositivi sempre più efficienti».
In definitiva appare evidente che, in un mercato in continua evoluzione, il successo di un’azienda come Me.ro si giochi sulle abilità e le competenze acquisite sul campo, e su un sistematico lavoro di ricerca sui materiali. E il risultato sembra essere quello di avere a disposizione un sistema di trattamento corona che si configuri quasi come un “accessorio” da montare a bordo macchina, di cui dimenticarsi; un accessorio, però, in grado di contribuire a risolvere le problematiche che emergeranno dallo sviluppo delle applicazioni future nel campo dell’imballaggio flessibile. | | Corona treatment: “film” systems
The Corona treatment devised by Me.ro aims at two objectives: guaranteeing the yield of the production, conversion and film print systems, at the same time offering maximum working safety.
The evolution of film - but more in general of all the packaging materials such as inks, adhesives and solvents - combined with the increase in potential of the PE and BOPP extrusion lines and the print and laminating machines, has drawn the development of corona treatment technology along with it.
Me.ro - forty years of experience in the field - like a good forerunner is playing all-out, fielding its in-depth technical knowledge, a feature that goes to reinforce the reliability and the safety of its offer. All this going hand-in-hand with the company’s excellent capacity for reading the market and its needs.
As Armando Mennucci states - who despite his young age, has made a tremendous contribution to company business states: «When we started out, corona treatment was fundamentally used by the film producers. But the need to optimise the use of the continuously new flexible materials, modifying the surface features according to the print and laminating operations needed, has also led to the spread of the equipment required at the converters. Thus, as well as specialising in broad-ranged lines (up to 10 m, as in the case of the BOPP coextrusion systems) we have extended our range, also offering equipment capable of operating at current machine speeds that reach 600 m/minute».
Power under control

These days we can be thankful that there are people, like Me.ro, who manage to generate fields of energy, mastering them so as to turn them to “earthly” needs. Indeed the company, moving with great freedom and skill in this technical field, has been able to differentiate its product lines up to making the history of many applications.
As Mennucci goes on to say «by now all our power generators, from the smallest to the biggest are fitted with IGBT modules, featuring a high commutation speed and low loss that, along with the configuration of the power circuits, ensure a high yield and complete auto-protection in the event of accidental overload. But there is more to it: the treatment station has an operator terminal that, as well as general diagnostics, enables one to regulate specific download potential, guaranteeing the constancy of the set parameters also in the event of a change in the operating conditions caused by changes in machine speed, tension, damp and temperature. Thus the parameters in our corona treatment plants are exclusively defined on the basis of the material to be treated, enabling the operator to call the recipe relating to a certain product up on computer, this apart from the contingent working conditions».
Reliability and safety
Another “lead thread” that links Me.ro‘s output overall is the high sense of responsibility in terms of systems management that, due to their intrinsic nature, have to be examined with great attention, both from a project and from a constructive point of view.
This is why, over and beyond simple reasons of a confidential nature, the company continues to design and assemble its systems independently, only outsourcing the construction of a few structural items.
«Recently for example for our mono and bilateral discharge stations we have created aluminium cylinders with conductive ceramic surface coatings that, in their not oxidising, guarantee greater lifespan».
