Affidabili, omologati al trasporto delle merci più varie (anche pericolose), tamper evident: con queste caratteristiche i contenitori di PE, PP e PET prodotti da Edil Plast hanno conquistato le imprese chimiche e della detergenza. Grazie alla determinazione e all’apertura mentale di un imprenditore che sa guardare oltre.

Oggi «qui al Sud, per avviare un’attività imprenditoriale spesso occorre “importare” sia il know how sia l’impiantistica e, soprattutto, bisogna saper tessere quella rete di conoscenze, relazioni e infrastrutture necessarie allo sviluppo». Così Nicola Letizia riassume, in poche parole, una convinzione che rispecchia il suo personale percorso: quello che lo ha portato, dopo essersi affermato nell’edilizia, ad avviare la Edil Plast nel campo del soffiaggio delle materie plastiche. Infatti, il progetto che ha dato vita all’azienda casertana, focalizzato sulla produzione di contenitori per i comparti chimico e della detergenza, è stato elaborato prendendo spunto dagli studi di mercato promossi dall’Unione Industriali, di cui Letizia è attivo sostenitore.
«Le ricerche condotte per monitorare l’economia locale - racconta l’imprenditore - evidenziavano una carenza di offerta nel campo dei contenitori omologati al trasporto di merci pericolose con standard ADR. Noi siamo partiti da questo spunto, ma per rendere effettivamente operativa l’azienda, abbiamo dovuto superare più difficoltà dell’ordinario, iniziando dalla formazione di mano d’opera specializzata, che in zona mancava. Oggi possiamo dire di essere a un ottimo punto, sia perché abbiamo al nostro interno le competenze necessarie a fornire un prodotto e un servizio di qualità superiore, sia perché il mercato sta rispondendo molto positivamente».
Autonomi e flessibili
«Oggi - spiega Letizia - abbiamo una gamma completa di modelli e di formati che copre dai 10 ml ai 25 litri, in grado di soddisfare le esigenze dei vari segmenti dell’industria chimica (dagli oli minerali alla detergenza, dall’igiene personale alla florovivaistica...), a cui si affiancano di volta in volta imprese alimentari o di altra natura che richiedono contenitori di plastica. Inoltre, nelle taniche della Edil Plast “viaggiano” liquidi pericolosi, trasportati anche via nave e aereo, con tutte le necessarie garanzie di integrità fino a destinazione. Per raggiungere questo risultato abbiamo puntato innanzitutto al know how: per questo, abbiamo organizzato stage di sei mesi presso i fornitori di macchine e di stampi, dove i nostri operai hanno potuto seguire sin dall’inizio le fasi produttive, mettendoci in grado sia di produrre direttamente parte degli stampi sia di adattare i macchinari alle nostre esigenze, piuttosto che effettuare i primi interventi in caso di guasti o anomalie del ciclo».
Attualmente nel sito di Marcianise si estrude PE ad alto peso molecolare per le taniche e PP e PET per i formati minori, con macchine dalla configurazione particolare, adattate “in casa” per poter trasformare indifferentemente i diversi tipi di materiale. In particolare lavorano - su tre turni - otto soffiatrici, di cui una metà dedicate alla produzione di contenitori di grande formato e l’altra impiegata per lavorare sia il PP sia il PET.
Alla produzione diretta si affianca poi quella della rete di subfornitori selezionati, attivi soprattutto nella realizzazione di stampi (che in ogni caso sono di proprietà della Edil Plast) e di alcune tipologie speciali di contenitore.
«Questo tipo di organizzazione - sottolinea Letizia - è stato messo a punto non solo per assicurare la necessaria flessibilità al ciclo produttivo ma, anche e soprattutto, per poter garantire al cliente un servizio a tutto tondo che dalla qualità documentata dei contenitori si estende alla puntualità delle consegne, gestite direttamente con nostri trasportatori».
Controlli e complementi
L’affermazione di Edil Plast è stata favorita dall’offerta completa di contenitori, con una capacità produttiva che varia, a seconda delle dimensioni, fra i 40mila e i 500mila pezzi al mese e che è stata recentemente integrata da un nuovo, importante servizio di stampa serigrafica a colori.
Si tratta di una gamma in progress, che verrà ulteriormente integrata con nuovi modelli, e che ora trova sbocco in prevalenza nell’industria chimica (soprattutto nel confezionamento di prodotti infiammabili e più in generale pericolosi), cosmetica e della detergenza, ma che potrebbe trovare impiego anche nell’alimentare, grazie all’accurata selezione delle materie prime di origine.
«Fra i nostri clienti - afferma Nicola Letizia con orgoglio - figurano le multinazionali che operano al Sud, imprese di medie dimensioni dei comparti più disparati (dall’olio minerale ai fertilizzanti) e numerose piccole realtà che richiedono superiori garanzie di qualità del contenitore, sia in termini di compatibilità con sostanze aggressive che di tenuta delle chiusure».
Per questo Edil Plast ha posto un’attenzione particolare alle fasi di controllo di processo e di prodotto, dotandosi, per esempio, delle attrezzature necessarie a rilevare la presenza di microfori e ad espellere i contenitori difettosi, che verranno poi reimmessi in circolo per essere nuovamente estrusi.
Analogamente, è stata curata sia in fase di progetto che di realizzazione l’integrità delle chiusure, disponibili anche nelle varianti tamper evident e child proof ma sempre e comunque a massima garanzia di tenuta anche nei modelli più semplici, a tutela della salute del consumatore, dell’immagine di marca e, buon ultimo, della salvaguardia dello scaffale «evitando i danni causati dalle perdite di prodotti particolarmente “aggressivi”».
Cercare nuove risorse
Superata la fase di avviamento, Edil Plast sta mettendo a punto una serie di programmi di sviluppo ulteriore, che riguardano tanto l’apertura di nuovi sbocchi commerciali in aree geografiche vicine, quanto le opportunità offerte dall’impiego di materiale riciclato.
«Per ora abbiamo limitato il campo d’azione al Centro e Sud Italia - considera Letizia - tuttavia riteniamo che in alcuni paesi della fascia nordafricana si apriranno in tempi ragionevoli nuove possibilità di business, quantomeno per le linee di prodotto che è conveniente trasportare via nave. Inoltre, altri contatti e canali si stanno aprendo grazie alla mediazione delle associazioni di categoria e delle istituzioni al servizio dell’export, favorite dalle possibilità di comunicazione offerte dal Web. A questo proposito, stiamo perfezionando un progetto di sito interattivo, per meglio sfruttarne le potenzialità di vetrina virtuale e strumento di gestione degli ordini, che rafforzerà le più tradizionali azioni di direct marketing e di invii di campioni con cui oggi ci promuoviamo sul mercato».
Ma l’azienda del casertano sta esaminando con interesse anche lo sviluppo delle tecnologie per il riciclo di rifiuti da imballaggio, con l’obiettivo primo di riuscire a sfruttare materiale riciclato per produrre lo strato intermedio dei contenitori barriera. «La plastica riciclata - spiega l’industriale - può essere impiegata senza problemi di compatibilità né di macchinabilità in diverse applicazioni, ma non è sempre facile reperire materiale che presenti adeguate caratteristiche di purezza. I punti deboli riguardano, innanzitutto, il lavaggio che non sempre viene effettuato con la necessaria accuratezza e con i prodotti adatti (che, oltretutto, richiedono l’allestimento di un sito attrezzato per la depurazione dell’aria e delle acque).
Secondariamente, per ottenere una mescola adeguata, occorre operare un’accurata selezione dei corpi estranei, soprattutto metallici, che altrimenti in fase di estrusione provocano delle perforazioni nel materiale. E dato che un riciclato con questi requisiti non si trova facilmente, stiamo pensando di destinare parte del nostro sito a effettuare questo tipo di operazioni, in modo da completare il ciclo fino alla fase finale del recupero dei contenitori usati». |

Quality containers
Reliable, type-registered for the transport of the most varied goods (even dangerous items), tamper evident, with these features the PE, PP and PET containers produced by Edil Plast have conquered the chemical and detergency markets. Thanks to the determination and the open-mindedness of an entrepreneur who knows how to look afar. E.P.
«Today, here in the south of Italy, to start up an entrepreneurial activity you often have to “import” both the knowhow and the equipment and aboveall, you have to build up that network of contacts, relations and infrastructure needed to grow». Thus Nicola Letizia sums up in a few words a conviction that reflects his personal experience: what led him, after having made a name for himself in the building trade, to start up Edil Plast, company that operates in the field of blown plastics. In actual fact, the project that led to the creation of the Caserta-based company that focuses on the production of containers for the chemical and the detergency segment, was in part devised from the market studies promoted by the Unione Industriale, Letizia being a wholehearted supporter of the same.
«The studies carried out to monitor the local economy - Letizia goes on to say - highlighted a lack of supply in the field of type-registered containers for transporting ADR-standard dangerous goods. This is the point we started out from, but to actually get the company going, we had to get through a more than an ordinary amount of difficulties, starting with the training of skilled workers of which there was a shortage in the area. Today we can say we are at an excellent stage, both because we have the necessary skills to supply a product and a service of superior quality, both because the market is responding in a very positive fashion».
Independent and flexible
As Letizia explains «Today we have a complete range of models and formats that goes from 10 ml to 25 litres, capable of satisfying the needs of the various segments of the chemical industry (from mineral oils to detergents, to personal hygiene to floral nurseries..), and also food concerns and concerns of other natures that require plastic containers. As well as that, dangerous liquids also travel in Edil Plast containers by air and by sea, with all the necessary guarantees right up to destination. In order to achieve this result we aimed aboveall at knowhow: this is why we organised six month stages at machine and mould suppliers, where our workers were able to follow the production phases right from the beginning, making us able to both produce parts of moulds directly as well as to adapt our machines to our needs, and to intervene in the first stages in the event of failures or hitches in the production cycle».
Currently in the Marcianise site high molecular weight PE is extruded for PP and PET cans for smaller formats, using especially configured machines, adapted “at home” to be able to convert all the different types of materials. In particular eight blowers work on three shifts, half of which dedicated to the production of largescale containers and the others used in processing both PP and PET. Direct production is accompanied by a network of selected sub suppliers, mostly involved in creating moulds (that in any case are the property of Edil Plast) and some special types of containers.
«This type of organization - Letizia underlines - was devised not only to ensure the necessary flexibility in the production cycle but, also and aboveall, to be able to guarantee the customer an all-round service that goes from the documented quality of the containers to punctual deliveries run directly by our transporters».
Controls and complements
Edil Plast’s success has been favored by its complete range of containers, with a production capacity that varies, depending on the size, from 40 thousand to 500 thousand pieces a month and that has recently been integrated by a new, important silkscreen and color print service.
A range of products still to be completed, in that new models are being turned out constantly, its main outlet for now being the chemical industry (aboveall in the packing of inflammable and more in general dangerous products), cosmetics and detergency, but that could also find usage in the food sector, thanks to the careful selection of the original raw materials. Nicola Letizia states with pride «Our customers include the multinationals that operate in the South of Italy, medium-sized companies in a broad variety of segments (from mineral oil to fertilisers) and numerous small concerns that require higher guarantees of quality of the container, both in terms of compatibility with aggressive substances as well as closure tightness».
This is why Edil Plast has paid special attention to the process and product control phases, for example fitting itself out with the equipment needed to reveal the presence of microholes and to expel defective containers, that are then put back into circulation by being re-extruded.
In the same vein, the effectiveness of the closure has been seen both in the project stage as well as in execution, available also in the tamper-evident and childproof variants but always and at any rate with the max guarantee of tightness also in the simplest models - this to protect the consumer’s health, the image of the brand and last but not least, to safeguard the shelf«avoiding damage caused by the loss of particularly “aggressive” products».
Looking for new resources
Having got past the start-up phase, Edil Plast is devising a series of programs for further development that regard both the opening of new commercial outlets in geographic areas close by, as well as the opportunities offered by the usage of recycled material.«For now we have limited our field of action to central and southern Italy - Letizia considers - all the same we are of the idea that new possibilities of business will open up reasonably soon in North Africa, at least for the lines of products that can be conveniently transported by sea. As well as that, other contacts and channels are opening up thanks to the mediation of trade associations and the institutions to help foster exports, favored by the communication offered by the Web. On this count, we are finishing a project for an interactive site, to better exploit the potential of the virtual showcase and tool for handling orders, a reinforcing of our more traditional direct marketing and the sending of samples that we are now using to promote our activity». But the Caserta based company is also looking into the development of technology for recycling packaging waste, with the objective first and foremost of being able to exploit recycled materials in order to produce the intermediate layers of the barrier containers. «Recycled plastic - the industrialist explains - can be used without problems of compatibility or machineability in different applications, but it is not always easy to get hold of material that has suitable features of purity. The weakpoints aboveall regard washing - that is not always carried out with the necessary care and with the right products (that as well require starting up an equipped site for purifying the air and the water). Secondly, in order to obtain a suitable mix, that otherwise in extrusion phases causes the perforation of the material. And given that recycled materials with these requisites are not easily found, we are thinking of dedicating part of our site to carrying out this type of operation, so as to complete the cycle up to the final phase of recovering the used container». |
