Riciclare è un’Arte
A sostegno della cultura del recupero e riciclo, il Conai ha promosso un’iniziativa singolare e in un’occasione di eccezionale rilevanza: l’ultimo vertice sull’ambiente del G8, svoltosi lo scorso marzo a Trieste. Il Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi ha progettato una mostra d’arte contemporanea en plein air nel centro storico cittadino, che ha impegnato otto artisti di paesi diversi a creare opere con materiali usati e destinati allo smaltimento. Denominata “Transforms - 8 artisti per Trieste”, la mostra è stata curata da Emanuela De Cecco e Roberto Pinto, che hanno coinvolto gli italiani Enrica Borghi e Luca Pancrazzi, David Hestie dalla Gran Bretagna, Soo Ja Kim dalla Corea, l’armeno Alexander Mejkonyan, l’anglo-francese Lucy Orta, il giamaicano Nari Ward e il cubano René Francisco Rodriguez. Suggestive le idee e la messa in opera nel particolare contesto offerto da una città dalla forte personalità urbanistica e culturale: nel Canale interno di Sant’Antonio sono state disposte le ninfee di bottiglie di plastica e fibre ottiche realizzate da Enrica Borghi, mentre al Molo IV del Porto Vecchio, in cima a montagne di sabbia, David Hestie ha costruito i suoi castelli di legno, ferro e piombo riciclati e al centro del Teatro Romano il giamaicano Nari Ward ha messo in scena una grande sfera di marmitte d’auto, che fischiavano al soffio della bora. Inaugurata il 1° marzo da Riccardo Illy e Willer Bordon, la manifestazione è stata organizzata da Associazione Arte Continua e Comunicarte, con il patrocinio di ministero dell’Ambiente, Comune di Trieste, Soprintendenza ai beni artistici del Friuli e alcune istituzioni economiche locali.
Recycling as Art
In order to support the culture of recovery and recycling, Conai promoted a singular undertaking in an occasion of exceptional importance: the last G8 summit on the environment, held last March at Trieste. The Italian Packaging Consortium organised an open-air contemporary art exhibition in the old town centre, committing eight artists from different countries to work with used materials to be sent for disposal.
Denominated “Transforms - 8 artists for Trieste”, the show was organized by Emanuela de Cecco and Roberto Pinto, and involved Italian artists Enrica Borghi and Luca Pancrazzi, David Hestie from the UK, Soo Ja Kim from Korea, the Armenian Alexander Mejkonyan, Anglo-Frenchwoman Lucy Orta, the Jamaican Nari Ward and Cuban René Francisco Rodriguez. The location of a town with a strong urbanistic and cultural character was to particular effect: the inner San Antonio Canal hosted the waterlillies made out of plastic bottles and optical fibres made by Enrica Borghi, while on wharf n. 4 of the Old Port, on top of a mountain of sand, David Hestie built his castles in recycled wood, iron and lead. At the centre of the Roman Theatre Jamaican Nari Ward exhibited a large sphere made out of car exhaust-pipes that whistle when the “bora” blows. Inaugurated 1° March by Riccardo Illy and Willer Bordon, the show was organised by Associazione Arte Continua and Comunicarte, sponsored by the Ministry for the Environment, the Municipality of Trieste, the Superintendent of the arts of the region of Friuli and various local, economic institutions.
