Thus, following the comments of Giovanni Cappelli (the Director of Anfima – National Association of Metallic and Related Packaging) were published in ItaliaImballaggio n. 6, we received and are gladly publishing a letter from Dr. Piero Francesconi (Flexible Packaging & Technology) in its entirety.
Dear Guidotti,
I read the letter from Dr. Giovanni Cappelli, Director of Anfima, and I was very surprised and taken aback. Of course, it’s logical that everyone “brings grist to his own mill”, but this is beyond all proportion! I won’t have it!
I believe I was the first in Italy to point the finger at the lack of hygiene in cans. In fact, as far back as 1995 I travelled our country far and wide collecting cans that were being traded, and through Termofilm Srl I requested a complete analysis of the top part of the cans be done by the Microbiology Institute of Turin (directed by Professor Caramello). The subsequent report is already in your hands, seeing that your highly esteemed magazine published an exhaustive excerpt of the same (April 1998, Environment and Legislation, p.90). That publication would be more than sufficient to refute Mr. Cappelli’s affirmations. Evidently, he is not an attentive reader.
Any other comments would be superfluous. The data absolutely confirm that “the can is not in good health.” Unfortunately the overriding powers of certain vested interests are capable of modifying reality, or at least blocking the same.
That’s the way things go!

Igienicità delle lattine: la storia di “Imballaggio pazzo” si arricchisce di testimonianze. E così, dopo il commento di Giovanni Cappelli (direttore Anfima, Associazione Nazionale Fabbricanti Imballaggi Metallici ed Affini) pubblicato su ItaliaImballaggio n. 6, riceviamo e volentieri pubblichiamo integralmente una lettera del dottor Piero Francesconi (Flexible Packaging & Technology).
Carissima Guidotti,
ho letto la lettera del dottor Giovanni Cappelli, funzionario dell’Anfima, e ne sono rimasto molto meravigliato e stupito.
Certo è logico che ognuno di noi “porti acqua al proprio mulino”, ma così è spudoratamente troppo! Ed io non ci sto!
Credo di essere stato il primo, in Italia, a mettere il dito sulla piaga della mancata igienicità delle lattine. Infatti, nell’ormai lontano 1995, ho percorso in lungo e in largo il nostro Paese raccogliendo lattine in commercio e, per conto della Termofilm Srl, ebbi modo di richiedere all’Istituto di Microbiologia di Torino (diretto dal Professor Caramello) un’analisi approfondita della parte superiore delle lattine.
La relazione risultante è già in vostre mani, dato che ne fu pubblicato un esauriente stralcio sulla vostra autorevole rivista (Aprile, 1998, Environment & Legislation, pagina 90).
Tale pubblicazione sarebbe più che sufficiente per smentire quanto è andato affermando il signor Cappelli che, evidentemente, non è un attento lettore.
Ogni ulteriore commento è superfluo e i dati confermano che assolutamente “la lattina non è in piena salute”.
Purtroppo i forti poteri di alcune “congregazioni” riescono anche a modificare la realtà o, al minimo, a bloccarla.
Così va il mondo!
