• sviluppare la “memoria olfattiva”;
• influenzare positivamente la sfera psicologica;
• implementare gli effetti benefici, salutistici e protettivi;

Deodorant, perfume and olfactory “media”: the air-fragrance sector covers many products with different functions, offering the creative thinker unheard of possibilities for alternative marketing. Some comments from an expert in the field. Stefano Bader

The air-fragrancing market is split into two clearly distinct segments. On the one hand, there are the room fresheners, or deodorants, whose main aim is to cover, or minimise unpleasant smells coming from certain environmental situations. On the other is the culture of fragrancing, currently enjoying a period of rebirth, an expression of one’s personality and life-style, the fruit of a carefully studied integration of technology and image. Room fragrancing, unlike straight-forward deodorising, is the natural complement of a certain taste, an olfactory expression.
Seen as the ability to evoke a world in one’s own image and resemblance, it lets one create a personal atmosphere (aimed at reaching the well-being of both body and soul) by means of evident elements (useful or useless, but subtly complex), that found their particular value on the intensity of light, and on combinations of colour and fragrances.

First and foremost healthy air - In this context, regardless of whether one is faced with the problem of deodorising or fragrancing, ever greater attention is being dedicated to restoring the total quality of air in closed environments, whether these be in one’s own home or public or private buildings where one is forced to spend much time, whether it be for work or leisure.
The aim is to avoid harming our health, given the potential development and build-up of breathed-in contaminants and, at the same time, to improve the environmental acceptability and pleasantness of the air.
To deodorise, purify and sanitise air are, however, the primary goals. Fragrancing is a further step, to improve the pleasantness of the ambience, stressing the desire for physical and mental well-being.

The olfactory rediscovered - This new awareness of a sensorial dimension that goes right across the board has thus led to a re-evaluation of the olfactory, the “Cinderella” of the five senses, thanks to the rediscovery of unique and peculiar psychological and evocative meanings. This also opens up several new horizons for the use of what one can call olfactory vehicles, with various possibilities:
• to develop an “olfactory memory”;
• to influence positively the psychological sphere;
• to implement the beneficial healthy and protective effects;
• to increase one’s physical and mental well-being.

Perfume as the means - The above considerations help one see “fragrancing” from an unusual point of view, as a possible lever for direct marketing, promotions and public relations.
In fact, the complexity of psychological, emotional and sensorial aspects linked to perfume make this a potential new “means of communication” for business, and which also requires a highly professional creative approach, with interactivity one of its strengths. In fact, one’s response to a given olfactory stimulation is immediate and only a correct analysis of the coherence between the company and the fragranced message will be able to produce positive states of mind and behaviour.

A fragranced life - Oikos has been engaged in research and development of fragranced “systems” of various descriptions and complexity for many years, with applications in many different sectors: from home furnishing to textiles, from paper to inks, from air conditioning systems to car air-conditioners...
A few easy examples? The Milan-based company has recorded a leap in interest for ambience fragrancing, promoted by classic candles, now used without limits to make life more pleasant. Perhaps in the morning, one can leave a rose-scented bedroom, woken by the strong aroma of coffee, to enter a bathroom smelling of sage (and then, refreshed and toned, put on pine-scented lingerie).
Or in the evening, when the classic insecticide fumigator is replaced by fragrant net curtains that - please note: only in the evening... - release mosquito-repellent fragrances of geranium and citronella.
