Plast e Ipack-Ima insieme

Plast and Ipack-Ima together
Always having been held at the Milan Trade Fair, in February 2006 the two triennial fairs Plast and Ipack-Ima will for the first time be held alongside each other in the pavilions in the new exhibition centre at Rho-Pero.
Due to various synergies the two secretaryships of Enfiplast Srl and Ipack-Ima Srl have in fact decided to unite the two worlds, creating a great sector event (plastic and packaging) combining two time-honoured shows, that all the same will still keep their own separate identities.
“The synergies between the two sectors - Guido Corbella, managing director of Ipack-Ima stated - are indeed strong. You only have to consider that plastic makes up 50% of packaging materials. The intent is that of creating a Milan-based world exhibition pole for plastics and packaging, a benchmark for all international operatosr that are often both interested in packaging as well as intermediary products. Thus two excellent and technologically synergic showcases will be visitable in just one trip to Milan”.
The space occupied will be enormous (close on 140.000 m2) the same going for visitor potential. To the point where last march 45,000 operators visited Ipack-Ima, that hosted 1,710 exhibitors, while in May Plast saw the participation of 1.703 exhibitors, attracting 67,000 sector operators.

Flessibile d’autunno

Flexible in Autumn
The 18th Autumn Meeting of Giflex (23-24 October) was especially well attended this year. Nearly all the members of the Assografici flexible packaging group were present in Florence - 35 converters and 50 supporters - as well as some important guests representing other associations, major users, broadscale distribution and the trade press. A more probable reason was that this year businessmen and managers were encouraged to take part due to the current uncertainties of a market that's becoming more and more difficult to analyse and, especially, to “forecast”. Giflex's Chairman, Ruggero Gerosa, did however attempt to make a few predictions - drawing on the interim economic results being developed by the Association's research office - starting with a series of negative forecasts that continue to postpone (6 months at a time) any hope of the much awaited economic recovery. «Luckily - says Gerosa - packaging is less sensitive to economic cycles and, in fact, in the period January-July, output of flexible packaging is 5% higher and not by chance, as it's in line with the trends in the food sector. Unfortunately, however, the situation has got worse since September, to the point that we now forecast a drastic fall in the balance for 2003, so great that we recommend max prudence in making predictions for 2004».
It's time for analysis again and to take another look at those management tools, but it's also time to make choices and take decisions. Gerosa spoke about three major areas where Giflex needs to intervene over the next two years: suppliers, end-users and broadscale distribution, training.

Good showing at Microelettronica 2003
The 19th edition of Microeletronica, the industrial electronics show organized by the Vicenza Fair Body closed at Vicenza on the 24th October, having drawn 8,000 operators in its three day showing.
As vice president of the Industrial Association of the Province of Vicenza Giordano Malfermo stated - “the good showing is also due to the synergy between the Vicenza Fair and Industrial Association, that has helped direct Microelettronica towards the product sectors broadly represented in the area. Microelettronica 2003 - Malfermo goes on to say - has also witnessed the coming into being of the meccatronics district, that will have the Fair Body as a partner”. A rich program of convention activities was also held alongside the fair, offering an in-depth analysis and update on current topics. On this count one can cite the convention organized by Asem around the growth in the use of embedded industrial PCs and operating systems in the industrial automation sector.
