I componenti e i sistemi offerti coprono infatti numerose tecnologie industriali: idraulica, idraulica mobile, tecnologia lineare e d’assemblaggio, pneumatica, azionamenti e controlli.

Bosch Rexroth has been born out of the merger between Bosch AT and Mannesmann Rexroth, the new concern having been set up to cover a role of primary importance in the field of industrial and factory automation as well as mobile hydraulics.
A (new) company is being presented

4th July 2001, the Milan Museum of Science and Technology: there could not have been a better setting to officially announce the coming into being of the new Bosch Rexroth company, this given the calibre and the sectors of activity of the two protagonists, that have always based their mission on technological and product innovation. In actual fact a company has been created - controlled 100% by Robert Bosch GmbH, but that operates as an independent concern - capable of supplying a complete range of products and solutions that bear little comparison with other producers.
The components and the systems offered in fact cover numerous industrial technologies: hydraulics, mobile hydraulics, line and assembly technology, pneumatics, drives and controls.
As Manfred Grundke, designated president of the new concern specifies «From supplier of components, Bosch Rexroth has become a true and proper “Motion Specialist”, capable of integrating all the drive technology into the system solutions proposed. And in fact the customer is evermore in search of an all-round supplier that works as a partner. And it is in this very context that the new company places itself as “The Drive & Control Company”».
A group with 26 thousand employees
From 1st May 2001 hence Bosch Rexroth AG has been operative at world level. In actual fact, with the approval of the American anti-trust of the buy-up of Atecs Mannesmann AG, Bosch was able to integrate its Automation Technology sector with Mannesmann Rexroth AG.
Objective of the operation? Set up Bosch Rexroth AG, a company 100% affiliated to Robert Bosch GmbH, with operational headquarters at Lohr am Main (Germany). The new structuring places Bosch Rexroth at the peak of the factory and mobile hydraulics automation, with over 26,000 employees throughout the world and a consolidated turnover for 2001 estimated at 3,700 billion Euro. The Italian branch of the new Bosch Rexroth AG, Bosch Rexroth SpA - born out of the integration of the Robert Bosch SpA Automation and Mobile Oleodynamic Technology divisions, Mannesmann Rexroth SpA and Star Mikron SpA - can count on a staff of more than 500, as well as 50 distributors throughout Italy and over 10 exclusive repairers, with an overall turnover of around 260 million Euro, that should rise to 350 million of Euro by the year 2004.
The headquarters (over 40,000 m2) of the new Italian branch is that of the spacious former Mannesmann Rexroth Cernusco sul Naviglio premises close to Milan.

Presence on the market
The current company configuration was illustrated in the presence of the new Bosch Rexroth SpA management that was there in full force, that among other things were called upon to clarify the market approach of the new protagonist on the industrial and oleodynamic automation scene. Like the business units at international level, the commercial structure of Bosch Rexroth SpA, in order to be closer to the customer, is based on a matrix-type organization. The seven commercial divisions are responsible for the product and the technology: Industrial Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Linear Motion & Assembly Technology, Electric Drives & Controls, Service Automation, Foundry and Mobile Hydraulics.
With these divisions Bosch Rexroth puts itself forward as a systems integrator covering all the major industrial sectors, capable of offering the most suited drive solution for any applicative need, be this hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical or electrical. Over the years in fact Bosch Rexroth has purchased a vast knowhow in terms of design and creation of applications with a high technological content. In actual fact the numerous skill centres located throughout the world develop and place at the disposal of the entire group all the experience compiled in their specific contexts.
The commercial staff are supported by technicians specialised in the main industrial sectors (from machine tools to presses, from food industry machines to those for print, from workstations to windfarms). Hence the customers can have best class components and count on a support service that is capable of offering consultancy in the different fields of application. Finally, one needs to state that the new management wishes to reassure its customers, communicating that the merger will not entail price increases and aboveall that they will be able to procure their regular product lines. In the event that a new solution needs to be devised, the components to be adopted will be rated to suit the given instance, this by drawing on the standard range of products. In a period of two years Bosch Rexroth is sure to be able to offer a series of “unique” products. In order to attain this objective, a group of people have for some time been committed in the R&D of a complete line that includes the innovatory technology of both the leading concerns.

2001, Visano (BS) - Tiesse Robot is celebrating twenty-five years of activity, buoyed by their energy and satisfaction with a success story that started out back in 1976; a company with a precise mission: offer the market innovatory and sophisticated solutions in industrial automation processes.
Tiesse Robot’s twenty-five years

The growth of Tiesse Robot is based on an investment program and on strategic choices, aimed at an ever greater specialisation in the various automation sectors: from welding at the outset to the aluminium founding in all its various applications: from pressure die-casting to gravity casting, fettling and finishing of the casts to the adaptation of machinetools and palletisation operations. The year 1992 witnessed the start of Tiesse’s partnership agreement with the Japanese giant Kawasaki, that has been producing robots featuring a high design flexibility and sophisticated cutting-edge technology for over thirty years now, with a constant upward growthtrend: 5000 robots in the year 2000 and 6000 scheduled for the year 2001.

There’s strength in numbers - Company dynamism has been translated into a shrewd share policy, leading to the setting up of an integrated group of companies where Tiesse Robot stands as group leader. Capable of satisfying a broad variety of market requirements, their output goes from the assembly and cabling of isles for fluorescent lamps and work centres for processing plastics produced by System Robot, up to the viewing systems applied to robots for quality control made by Thesys Srl. After the buy-up of the Aster majority share packet, ad hoc solutions can be supplied in the field of electrical equipment. Likewise Tiesse’s entry into the share package of MTP of Codisotto di Luzzara (RE), has meant access to experience in the field of projection welding. This has enabled the production of some 50 automated isles, mainly fitted with Kawasaki anthropomorphic robots, for many important automobile, household appliance, metal furniture sub-suppliers etc.

Activity and numbers - in twenty-five year Tiesse Robots has at any rate made great strides and is still growing, with the commitment to face a globalised market that is becoming evermore competitive, and that for this very reason stands as a stimulating challenge. The figures speak clearly: the entire group turns out a total of some 500 robots a year, with a turnover of some 100 billion.
In the year 2000 Tiesse Robot laid the basis for an increase in its MIG welding sector (a field in which the company pioneered at its outset) more particularly with medium-to-large welding islands, where the robot is conceived for a bi- or tri-axial transfer process and for precise, speedy aerial systems, for the most relatively low-cost.
Company objectives for 2001 include the perfecting of the foundry, aluminium and alloy segment and hence the supply of systems complete with test devices in real time, this in prospect of total automation. The company is capable of offering “turnkey” factories both in Italy and abroad: it recently supplied a system for GPL tanks to Argentina, to the value of 4-5 million dollars, that took as long as two years to devise.
Confirmation as to the state of health of the Brescia-based company is also seen in terms of figures. Turnover for the year 2000 stood at 45 billion lire, with a forecast of 50 billion for 2001. The number of robots produced in the year 2000 rose to 315 and with all probability, will exceed 400 units this year (sales of 130 robots were already registered in the first three months of the year, against the 88 sold in the year 2000). With a registered workforce of eighty, the company is currently investing heavily in service and assistance, featuring: availability 16 hours a day (including Saturday) of qualified personnel, with 80% of servicing operations carried out within 24 hours. And this is not all. Last July saw the inauguration inside the Vidano works of a warehouse especially fitted with offices, computerised storage area and sophisticated on-line system, so as to guarantee max efficiency in direct assistance to customers.

Novità A.L.Tech. a Labelexpo

A.L.Tech. novelties at Labelexpo
A.L.Tech. – Advanced Labelling Technologies – from Italy has been present at Labelexpo in Brussels (26-29 September) with some significant self-adhesive labelling equipment. An interesting novelty is given by a labelling system from ALline E series, built for the new Rexona roll-on by Unilever. This product has an innovative and attractive shape for which, however, A.L.Tech. engineers had to design a new orienting device which would provide precise and reliable operation. The ALline E incorporates two ALritma label applicators for front/back labelling, and is able to operate at over 200 pc/min. Thanks to sophisticated electronics, all of the system’s devices are automatically synchronized by microprocessor control, which permits easy regulation of all labelling parameters and makes the operator’s job considerably easier. A.L.Tech. has been making self-adhesive labellers since 1991 and today is one of the market’s leaders with over 500 machines built in the year 2000.

• net working (corsi annuali per diplomati e laureandi sulla gestione di reti e sistemi, progettazione grafica e interfaccia, programmazione e scrittura sul Web);
• master di ricerca (corso semestrale postlaurea a numero chiuso, indirizzo tecnologie avanzate, marketing e comunicazione, scrittura e progettazione Web, entertainment e visual effect);

Net Campus: a community for learning
The new technologies aren’t “learnt”, but picked up, i.e., by watching and, above all else, doing. This is the presupposition adopted as the basis of its activity by Net Campus, a professional school located in the center of Milan, offering courses of various duration and Master courses in the following fields of activity:
• net working (annual courses for high school graduates and university undergraduates on managing networks and systems, graphic design and interface, programming and writing on the Web);
• Master in research (six-month post-graduate course, closed number, specialising in cutting-edge technologies, marketing and communication, web writing and design, entertainment and visual effects);
• professional Master courses focussing on hacker defense, site development, webcasting and streaming, net marketing and web design.
Along the lines of European experiments, Net Campus offers sophisticated structures (more than 80 Internet stations) and qualified personnel (teachers and professionals) to back up the desire to learn of the “learning community”. But that’s not all: Net Campus creates senior professional figures and looks after their recruitment, makes it easier for students to take part in projects and training periods commissioned by firms, promotes cultural exchanges with similar entities and allows room for intelligent “internettian” entertainment.

Sistema di confezionamento Cryovac per carni lavorate
Primo S.A.

Cryovac packing system for processed meats
Primo S.A. is a French firm that focuses on the packing of fresh food products, especially smoked meats and cheeses. The only of its kind in the South-East of France, the supplier for supermarkets and hypermarkets throughout the region, it owes its development to the variety of its offer, which includes various types of processed pork products and sausages, patés and sauces.
A Cryovac customer since 1998, Primo uses several packing lines supplied by this American multinational and now makes an initial, gratifying assessment of the new Slicepak system, installed last February to package sliced processed meats and cheeses for display in self-service refrigerated counters. The system includes a rigid polystyrene support with a barrier liner; a heatshrink anti-condense lid 25 micron thick and a Ross Junior Automatic A20S packing machine, for vacuum or gas-injected packs. The advantages gained from the adoption of this system are had, firstly, in terms of the shelf-life and visibility of the product, followed by flexible management and less product storage and display space. But this French packer has also gained a great jump in sales thanks to the attractive and original pack obtained with Slicepak, a 21-day shelf life and the chance to display the packs (even more than one) both vertically and horizontally.

A “debut” in great style
After the success of the public purchasing order launched by the Favini Group on all the existing share of the Gelderse Papiergroep (autumn 2000), the two paper groups have given rise to the Favini Group, that has now reached a peak position in the European panorama of graphic specialities: it benefits from 1100 employees and an annual output of 150 thousand t. Bolstered by its renewed structure, the Favini Group (joined by the Dutch Meerssen & Palm and the Italian Favini Cartiere) has prepared a truly special debut, it will be at the luxury packaging fair - Luxe Pack - offering the ideal occasion for presenting its new logo, that highlights the synergies between producers, as well as Aralda and Majestic, two new types of paper destined to cover the high range in packaging, prestige brochures, luxury calendars... In particular Aralda is an elegant text & cover, with refined ivory tones, smooth and finely finished, with excellent print qualities. Produced by Favini Cartiere, thanks to its stiffness and thickness, it guarantees excellent performance in the folding, diecutting, scoring and punching phase. The range also includes three special versions devised for labeling, with which one can obtain normal labels, labels that stand up to damp or fat and oily substances. Majestic, produced by Meerssen & Palm, owe their special and exclusive appearance to a combination of pigmented colors and glosses: thirteen tones provided (5 pastel, 2 light and 6 dark colors) and difference of basis weight (120 and 290 gr/m2).

Cessioni

Share transfers
Manuli Packaging has sold 100% of shares in Manuli Tapes SpA - a leading European producer of adhesive tapes for packaging and masking, with expected turnover for the current year of roughly 200 billion Lira - to the Tyco Group (Tyco Adhesives).
At the end of the shareholders’ meeting that approved the transfer of shares to the Tyco Group, Sandro Manuli (executive vice-president and managing director of Manuli Packaging, the family-run holding company) stated that «the sale is part of a wider strategy of Manuli Packaging’s focussing on its core business of PE stretch and BOPP film, areas where the company has invested more than 230 billion Lire in the last 4 years, building new factories in Germany and Argentina.
Further investments are planned in this field (for a total of 100 billion Lira over the next two years), thanks to which another BOPP film production site will be opened, again in Germany or in the center/south of Italy».
Tyco Adhesives, on the other hand, is part of the Tyco Specialty Products division, part of Tyco International Ltd, which operates in more than 100 countries and saw turnover of USD 28.9 billion in the accounting year 2000.

New figure in packaging
Mingozzi Packaging Partner is a firm that offers its services as the perfect partner for the supply of automated packaging systems with the best quality/price ratio. Thanks to its founder’s thirty years’ experience in the field, it proposes and develops with the customer personalised technical solutions, as well as guaranteeing a high level of after-sales back-up.
The firm represents many companies, including Pattyn of Belgium and Hacmang of Holland. Pattyn specialises in the construction of machines for the forming and insertion of bags inside preformed cardboard or plastic boxes.
Its solutions look after the filling, weighing, counting and finally the closure of the bags via folding or heatseal processes. Pattyn supplies personalised lines - complete with box-openers, weighing machines, item counters, checkweighers, metal detectors, etc. - or single machines to integrate existing lines, for semi-liquid, powdery or granulate products and others beside.
Meanwhile, Hachmang produces item counters capable of reaching speeds of 100 counts/min, thanks to the development of a technology featuring a 3-D reader that guarantees virtually absolute precision, even capable of discriminating between product and empty wrapper.
As well as its item counters, Hachmang also produces bag-packing machines and machines that apply cardboard riders to the bags, used to hang them up and maximise their visibility at the sales outlet.
Finally, this Dutch company provides “turn-key” lines, complete with conveyor systems and connection structures for the food, chemicals and plastics industries.
