Marking and coding
A synthetic guide to the offer of marking and coding systems with company names and relative web addresses. An overview of the market for a targeted search of the latest new features in terms of products and services, made easier by the listing of producers under specific categories.
By our editorial staff

Coding products and packaging items to enable their complete, unequivocal identification is now more than ever an imperative. The reasons for doing this are many and varied, and these should be attained using the most economically and technically suited means. These go from product identification to traceability along the entire production-consumption chain to documentation of authenticity (anticounterfeiting) to communication to the user of specific information (best before date, etc). Here too in the packaging converting stage the code can also be used to check the correct forwarding of the product along the line, as well as the presence of all the necessary elements specified on the final and/or transport pack.
For this as well as for many other reasons the industry for producing coding and marking systems is a lively segment, featuring a discreet "coming and going" of commercial and other types of companies, and is aboveall in continuous development on the technological front. Here too we can cite numerous possible examples.
Aboveall hardware has to be continuously adapted to new types of codes, capable of accounting for evermore numerous and complex information in various ways, requiring modes of reproduction and coding that are evermore precise and "readable".
Research on inks is going ahead at the same speed, this in order to respond to the new demands in terms of foodstuffs compatibility (in the direct marking of eggs, market garden produce, meat etc), the reduction of environmental impact, the "micronization" of the packs and relative codes (that have to hence be reproduced with ever greater precision), as well as anti-counterfeiting. And here it is worthwhile inviting people to monitor the offer of the various sympathetic inks, pigments that change with temperature variations, new fluorescent colors only readable with a special laser and many other latest generation products, that might suggest new opportunities to safety experts, but also to communicators and marketers.
Looking at authenticity, we are also witnessing the development of evermore sophisticated coding systems, that start off from product identification (with marking of the most various nature) and involve the cataloguing-preservation of the relative data, reading-recognition with various levels of accessibility, comparisons and end certification of correspondence of the originally inserted code to the code on the product to be checked.
But we are a long way off from having listed all the cases covering solutions and applications. Others emerge if for example we consider logistics - both that inside the works or the sales warehouse as well as that concerning the transport and delivery of goods - as well as the flow of product references in the salespoint and - at the end of the product’s lifecycle - going on to the selection of containers used prior to recycling.
Here too, as in other cases, one can count on an updated offer capable of ensuring good opportunities.
The only problem is that of picking ones way among subjects that can offer the most interesting solutions conforming to ones specific needs. And if you don’t know where to start or you want a better view of what the market has to offer, you can take a look at the extract of ItaliaImballaggio’s Buyers’ Guide - focused on the world of coding and marking - where the list of companies and products are organised by product categories and completed with the Internet address of the various companies, this in terms of overall information.
If you then want to avoid the trouble of keying in all the addresses you can connect up to our site www.italiaimballaggio.it where you can find further news on the companies as well direct links to those of interest.
