The conversion of a stiff, strong packaging into the fluctuating contents of a glass jar. What should be the natural contents of the packaging turns into the container of a liquid holding the fluctuating image of its packaging. The container/contents link is thus completely overturned, just as the opposites of stiff/fluctuating become almost synonyms to symbolise the fast conversion of objects in our modern consumer society.
Also the concept of “preserving” the packaging in the typical glass jar, instead of just chucking it away after transport and use.
The technique used lets you detach the photographic emulsion from an image created on Polaroid film and then let it fluctuate freely inside a container, thus restoring the plasticity and 3-D of the original subject to the photo.
The combination of negative images, container, color of the liquid and backgrounds offers an infinite range of opportunities and opens up new horizons for creativity, expression and communication. Thus you can create and play with any image, give it its own independent, interactive life, overcoming the intrinsic static nature of this means.

Beppe Bolchi, born 1944 in a photo enthusiast since childhood, has experimented with all techniques (from the dark room to creative reprocessing of his images). Having started working professionally with Polaroid and thus the world of immediate photography, he’s assimilated their special features, moulding them to represent and interpret what always remains of reality, far from the fiction and artifice that could distort it, with the high quality of the materials greatly helping him.
His images have been exhibited in personal shows at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, in Numana, Nocera Inferiore, Castellanza, Milan and Arco in Italy, in Villajoyosa in Spain, in Arles and Paris in France, in Glasgow in Scotland. He currently has a show in Milan, entitled “Ciclopsìe” (June 13th to July 9th 2002). His most recent work is the Fluctuating Images project, having already taken part in various shows. He’s currently in the process of a series of portraits of leading figures in the world of photography in Italy and Europe.
The images shown here are part of this new and highly original technical and expressive research.
