Dai primi robot installati negli anni ‘70 l’industria ha compiuto notevoli progressi tecnologici. Sono infatti migliorate le prestazioni, sia in termini di facilità di utilizzo sia di capacità di “comunicazione” con altri sistemi. I tempi di ciclo si sono ridotti, è stata perfezionata la precisione di posizionamento e il controllo della velocità e ottimizzato il design degli assi.
Fortemente vocata all’innovazione, ABB Flexible Automation - che progetta e realizza soluzioni di automazione flessibile tramite i suoi robot center o attraverso integratori di sistemi - è riuscita negli anni a mettere a punto una gamma di soluzioni talmente ampia da poter svolgere dalle semplici funzioni di manipolazione alle più complesse operazioni di automazione, posizionandosi seconda in Europa e terza nel mondo nella costruzione di robot.
Quale miglior occasione, quindi, del venticinquesimo anniversario della robotica per annunciare i traguardi raggiunti? Nel corso dell’open house - organizzato lo scorso febbraio nella nuova sede di Sesto San Giovanni - ABB Flexible Automation ha anche inaugurato il suo nuovo laboratorio, allestito con 18 isole robotizzate, per facilitare il cliente nella scelta della soluzione più indicata alle diverse esigenze produttive.
Senza nulla togliere alle nuove soluzioni messe a punto dall’azienda, il vero protagonista della giornata è stato il cliente, a cui ABB Flexible Automation si dedica offrendo soluzioni personalizzate.
Customer service
Per ABB Flexible Automation il servizio clienti non significa solo un’assistenza di tipo tradizionale (intervento su chiamata o per ricambi) ma anche un supporto più orientato alle loro richieste. ABB stipula infatti contratti di assistenza tecnica personalizzata, organizza corsi di formazione e condizionamento impianti e offre progetti di full service e di outsourcing. Alcuni contratti di assistenza prevedono inoltre un’attività di manutenzione ispettiva, preventiva o programmata, altri ancora stabiliscono una garanzia prolungata.
Tra i servizi presentati, quello che ha suscitato particolare interesse è ABB Rental, avviato a inizio anno per ridurre l’impatto dell’investimento. Si tratta di un prodotto finanziario offerto come alternativa al leasing o ad altre forme di finanziamento.
«ABB Rental - spiega Giuseppe Cazzulani, marketing & communication manager ABB Flexible Automation - è una forma di affitto che non va ad intaccare il bilancio aziendale, quindi non si deve necessariamente disporre di un capitale o ricorrere a un prestito bancario per poter acquistare il bene. Tra l’altro, questa prassi lascia alle aziende una maggiore libertà nel richiedere ulteriori, possibili, finanziamenti.
ABB Rental prevede rate da pagare, stabilite con formule diverse a seconda delle esigenze, comprensive del servizio di assistenza. Il cliente, infatti, non deve preoccuparsi della manutenzione dell’impianto perché in caso di guasti interviene ABB.
A differenza di un contratto di leasing - continua Cazzulani - alla scadenza del quale si acquista il bene perché è diventato di proprietà dell’azienda, scegliendo ABB Rental ci si trova davanti a due alternative: comperare il bene in oggetto pagando una piccola differenza, oppure sostituirlo con uno più recente, che meglio soddisfi le esigenze produttive del momento, magari perché dotato di un nuovo software o di un nuovo controllo».
L’avvio di ABB Rental comporterà necessariamente il coordinamento di un “parco robot usato”, che potrà essere operativo a pieno ritmo fra tre anni, quando ABB sarà in grado di gestire un numero sufficiente di robot usati.
«Molte aziende infatti - conclude Cazzulani - vogliono essere proprietarie dei propri mezzi di produzione, mentre altre preferiscono mantenere intatta la propria liquidità e disporre di mezzi sempre nuovi ed efficienti, coperti da contratto».

Robotics is having its twentieth birthday celebration and for the occasion, ABB Flexible Automation, one of the protagonists of the sector, has organized an open house to inaugurate a new workshop and present new robots and services.
Since the first robots installed in the seventies the industry has made considerable technological progress. Performance has improved, both in terms of ease of usage and in terms of communication capacity with other systems. Cycle times are down and positioning precision and speed control have been perfected and the designing of the axes has been optimised.
With a strong vocation to innovation, ABB Flexible Automation - that designs and creates flexible automation solutions through its robot centers or by way of system integrators - has over the years managed to devise a range of solutions broad enough to run from the simplest handling functions to the most complex automatic operations, positioning itself second in Europe and third in the world in the construction of robots.
What better occasion hence then the twenty-fifth anniversary of robotics to announce the achievements that have been made? During the open house - organised last February in the new premises in Sesto San Giovanni - ABB Flexible Automation has also inaugurated its new workshop, fitted out with 18 robot islands to help customers in their task of choosing the best solutions for their various production needs.
Without in any way detracting from the new solutions devised by the company, the real protagonists of the day were the customers, to whom ABB Flexible Automaton is dedicated to offering personalised solutions.
Customer service
For ABB Flexible Automation customer service does not only mean traditional type assistance (operating on call or providing spare parts) but also offering support better orientated to customer requisites. ABB in fact stipulates personalised technical assistance contracts, organises training and system conditioning courses and offers full service and outsourcing projects. Some assistance contracts also provide inspectoral, preventive or programmed maintenance activity, others again extend the guarantee.
Among the services presented ABB Rental aroused particular interest. Started up at the beginning of the year to reduce the impact of investment, the service offers a financial product that constitutes an alternative to leasing or to other forms of financing.
«ABB Rental - Giuseppe Cazzulani ABB Flexible Automation marketing & communication manager explained - is a form of rental that does not eat into the company budget, hence you don’t necessarily have to have capital or resort to a bank loan to be able to purchase the goods or item at hand. Among other features, this practise allows the company greater freedom in requesting further financing if needed.
ABB Rental works on a system of paid instalments, established with different formulas according to specific needs, this including servicing and assistance. The customer in fact does not have to worry about the upkeep of the system because in the event of a break-down ABB steps in. As opposed to a leasing contract - Cazzulani continues - at the expiry of which the goods or item are purchased in that they become company property, choosing ABB Rental you are faced with two alternatives: buy the item at hand paying a small difference or substitute it with a more recent model, that better satisfies the production requirements in that given time, perhaps because fitted with a new software or a new control». The start-up of ABB Rental necessarily entails the coordination of a “used robot yard” that could be operative in full in three years time, when ABB will be capable of managing a sufficient number of used robots. «In actual fact many companies - Cazzulani concludes - wish to own their own means of production, while others prefer keeping their liquid assets intact while also being able to always rely on new and efficient machines covered by contract».

IRB 340
L’impianto di confezionamento composto da robot a struttura parallela FlexPicker IRB 340, dotato di software di inseguimento e sistemi di visione artificiale, provvede all’identificazione, inseguimento e prelievo orientato. Ideale per le operazioni di pick & place, il robot solleva prodotti fino a 1 kg, con un tempo ciclo di circa 0,5 secondi.

IRB 6400 features a 20% increase in speed and a corresponding saving in energy consumption on the preceding IRB 6000 series. The QuickMove functions ensure max speed and acceleration in the processing cycle, while the TrueMove function offers high path precision, independent of speed.
