ETICHETTE Alla sua 25esima edizione Labelexpo Europe ha trasmesso un chiaro segnale di ottimismo al mercato, che si rispecchia nei brillanti dati di redemption e, soprattutto, nell’attenzione con cui i visitatori hanno esaminato le proposte in fiera. Il resoconto di un cronista e una rassegna dei prodotti visti. A cura della redazione

Grande successo per il venticinquesimo Labelexpo Europe 2005 (Bruxelles, 21-24 settembre).
500 stand, 23.000 visitatori da 100 nazioni (+15%), 350 milioni Euro di venduto in fiera (secondo le prime stime Tarsus) e moltissime delegazioni straniere da tutto il mondo hanno testimoniato la vivacità del labelling e confermato gli indici di tendenza che annunciavano una ripresa del settore. Record di vendite sono stati registrati soprattutto in Nilpeter, Mark Andy, Gallus, Omet, GiDue e HP Indigo (che testimonia della tanto attesa affermazione del digitale), anche grazie alle numerose novità di prodotto e tecnologia presentate in quasi tutti i settori. Fra queste, particolare interesse hanno incontrato le innovazioni riguardanti la Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), sempre più di frequente applicata all’etichettatura che permettono di “stoccare” in un unico supporto informazioni di varia natura insieme a funzioni antitaccheggio, anticontraffazione e quant’altro.
Con un potenziale produttivo di miliardi di etichette all’anno. Quanto alle macchine, si conferma l’interesse del mercato per la banda stretta, che crea nuove opportunità nel converting non solo di etichette ma anche di cartoni, film, imballaggi flessibili, prodotti industriali e soluzioni promozionali. La tecnologia di processo in-line crea valore aggiunto in tutte le operazioni, dal foiling alla goffratura, dalla laminazione ai processi di stampa, fino alla piegatura e alle lavorazioni di taglio in fogli. E il sistema flessografico mostra ancora una volta le proprie doti di flessibilità ed economicità.
Sempre nelle macchine da stampa, importanti sviluppi si sono registrati sia nella meccanica sia nell’elettronica.
Consolidata, in particolare, la tecnologia servodrive con la sua capacità di incorporare controlli elettronici di avanzamento, sostituire il motore a ingranaggi, favorire una miglior qualità di registro e di stampa su diversi tipi di supporto. Le imprese italiane si sono fatte notare per vivacità e fantasia tecnologica.

RFID, procedimenti e prodotti
Un sistema RFID semplice (Radio Frequency Identification) è composto da un tag e un lettore. Il tag, o transponder, comprende un chip che contiene le informazioni che identificano l’oggetto e un’antenna che comunica o trasmette le informazioni via onde radio. Il lettore crea un campo di radiofrequenza che rileva onde radio. Quando un’etichetta RFID passa attraverso, o viene colpita, da una radiofrequenza compatibile, si attiva e risponde trasmettendo i dati contenuti nel chip attraverso l’antenna. I principali vantaggi della tecnologia RFID consistono nella “invisibilità” dell’etichetta che contiene tag e reader (a differenza del codice a barre), nella possibilità di modificare i dati contenuti nel chip e nella lettura ad altissima velocità. Attualmente il procedimento più usato (affidabile ma costoso) per applicare il transponder all’interno dell’etichetta consiste nell’acquistare una bobina di inlay (una base in poliestere, sulla quale vengono posizionate antenna e chip). È però anche possibile, e più economico, stampare un’antenna con inchiostri conduttivi in flexo o in serigrafia, e applicare successivamente il chip con un pick&place, usando una colla conduttiva: esempi in questo senso, a Bruxelles, erano offerti dalla canadese XINK e dall’americana Parloc.
Le macchine per accoppiare l’inlay nell’etichetta erano rappresentate da ABG con la Omega Ti 150, la Bielomatik (modello Tal 100/165) e la tedesca Melzer. Sato, Rafsec, Avery Dennison ed Etilux proponevano invece soluzioni di etichette adesive RFID neutre in vari formati a bobina (il neutro è molto diffuso nella logistica e può essere stampato sul fronte).
KSW Microtek presentava tag inlay in vari formati, mentre Muhlbauer proponeva macchine “pick&place”.
RFID, procedures and products
A simple RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system is made up of a tag and a reader. The tag or transponder, includes a chip that contains information that identifies the object and an antenna that communicates or transmits the information using radio waves. The reader creates a radio frequency field that picks up the radio waves; when a RFID label passes through it or is hit by a compatible radio frequency, the label is activated and responds transmitting the data contained in the chip through the antenna. The main advantages of RFID technology consist in the “invisibility” of the label that contains the tag and reader (as opposed to barcodes), in the possibility of modifying the data contained in the chip and in hi-speed reading.
Currently the most-used procedure (reliable but costly) for applying the transponder inside the label consists in buying an inlay reel, a polyester base, on which antenna and chip are positioned. Though it is possible and more economical to print an antenna with conductive ink in flexo or screenprint, and following that apply the chip with a pick&place system using a conductive glue.
In the conductive ink sector at Brussels the Canadian concern XINK and the American concern Parloc were present. The machines for laminating the inlay in the label were represented by ABG with Omega Ti 150, the Bielomatic (model Tal 100/165) and the German concern Melzer. Sato, Rafsec, Avery Dennison and Etilux in turn were offering neutral RFID labels in various formats on rolls (neutral is widespread in logistics and can be printed on the face). KSW Microtek presented tag inlay in various formats, while Muhlbauer offered “pick&place” machines.

Great success for the twenty-fifth Labelexpo Europe 2005 (Brussels, 21st - 24th September).
500 stands, 23,000 visitors from 100 countries (+15%), 350 million Euros of sales at the fair (according to the first estimates by Tarsus) and many foreign delegations from all over the world bore witness to the liveliness of labeling and confirmed the trend indices that announce a recovery of the sector.
Record sales registered aboveall by Nilpeter, Mark Andy, Gallus, Omet, GiDue and HP Indigo (that bear witness to the much expected success of digital), also thanks to the numerous product and technological new features presented in nearly all the sectors. Among these, the innovation concerning RFID encountered particular interest, evermore frequently applied to labeling enabling the “storage” in one sole substrate of information of various nature as well as an anti-tamper, anti-counterfeiting function.
With a production potential of billions of labels a year. As far as the machines are concerned, the market’s interest for narrow web is confirmed, a feature that creates new opportunities for converting not only for labels but also for cartons, film, flexible packaging, industrial products and promotional solutions. In line processing technology creates added value in all its operations, from foiling to embossing, from lamination to print processes, up to folding and sheet cutting process.
And the flexographic system once again shows how flexible and economical it is. Still on the subject of print machines, important developments have been registered both in mechanical engineering as well as in electronics. In particular the servodrive technology has been consolidated with its capacity to incorporate electronic forwarding controls, the replacement of gears with a motor enabling a better quality of register and print on various types of substrates. The Italian companies stood out for liveliness and technological imagination.

Gipea rilancia in Italia
Le principali novità di Labelexpo sono state riproposte agli operatori italiani per iniziativa del Gipea (il gruppo produttori etichette autoadesive sorto in seno ad Assografici), che ne ha fatto il cuore del 12° convegno tecnico.
Organizzato lo scorso novembre al Novotel di Milano Nord, l’incontro è stato aperto, come di consueto, dal presidente Alberto Ghiotto, seguito da Stefano D’Andrea che, in veste di esperto della Commissione Tecnica Gipea-Taga, ha esposto con la consueta verve comunicativa una relazione da “inviato speciale” a Bruxelles.
Dopo questa introduzione generale agli sviluppi tecnologici, i responsabili commerciali di Omet, Nastrificio di Cassano, Gidue, Idea & Comunicazione, Somaca, Polipress e IST
hanno illustrato gli ultimi prodotti messi a punto dalle rispettive aziende.
I principali “segnavia” del viaggio di D’Andrea hanno aiutato a evidenziare gli elementi su cui si è concentrata la R&S: la banda stretta; la crescita qualitativa della flessografia; l’offset waterless; la modularità e prestanza delle macchine; le tecnologie in linea (RFID, ologrammi…); i sistemi di controllo in produzione.
Diverse novità sulle macchine - Per quanto riguarda gli sviluppi sulle macchine, l’attenzione dell’esperto si è fermata sulle trasmissioni senza ingranaggi, i cilindri con maniche e l’evoluzione dei controlli. Oggi, infatti, il top dell’automazione è rappresentato dai servomotori integrati indipendenti, in grado di muovere in maniera dedicata ciascun perno dei componenti del gruppo di stampa. Ne deriva la possibilità di migliorare i controlli in tiratura (pressioni, memorie di settaggio…) e, in particolare, la gestione dello schiacciamento, definendo i diversi passi di stampa a seconda del set up (lastra+adesivo) desiderato. Quanto alle maniche, la novità consiste nel loro ingresso nella banda stretta, con vantaggi in fase di avviamento e pre registro. I cliché, a loro volta, stanno beneficiando dell’incremento di qualità conferito dall’incisione diretta delle lastre, dall’uso di solventi “amichevoli” e dall’evoluzione dell’asciugatura a radiazioni, che richiede in tutto 20 minuti, è compatibile con qualsiasi solvente e processa tutti i tipi di lastra.
Nuovi strumenti per il controllo colore
In materia di controllo qualità, invece, D’Andrea ha segnalato la disponibilità di spettrofotometri più semplici da usare (si possono calibrare anche via Internet), oltre che più precisi e versatili, e la messa a punto di densitometri veloci, applicati sulla macchina per letture in-linea, che permettono oggi un più preciso controllo degli errori di stampa del colore (e la loro prevenzione).
Più precisamente, lo spettrofotometro permette di formulare ricette colori, anche speciali e senza mantenere un database di coloranti; gestire rimanenze di inchiostro; controllare le quadricromie (ISO 12647) e le differenze colore (DE*2000, DE*94, DE CMC); trasferire informazioni con prestampa per la gestione delle separazioni. A sua volta, il densitometro misura la densità colori primari di stampa e mostra tutta la sua utilità quando le immagini sono state separate in base alle caratteristiche dei colori e del supporto. Oggi questo strumento si può installare con la massima semplicità online (in questi ultimi mesi sono state effettuate le prime installazioni “retrofit”), garantendo 20 misurazioni al secondo, ed è disponibile con più teste di misurazione (fino a 4) e canali (CMY + 6 speciali).

Gipea relaunches in Italy
The main new features at Labelexpo were reproposed to Italian operators as part of an undertaking by Gipea (pressure-sensitive label producers group under Assografici) that organized the 12th technical convention around the same.
Organised last November at the Milano Nord Novotel, the encounter was - as tradition has it - opened by Alberto Ghiotto, followed by Stefano D’Andrea who, in the vestige of expert on the Gipea-Taga Technical Commission, carried on with his usual verve in the role of “special correspondent” from Brussels.
After this general introduction to the technological developments, the commercial heads of Omet, Nastrificio di Cassano, Gidue, Idea & Comunicazione, Somaca, Polipress and IST illustrated the latest products made available by their respective concerns. The first “route markers” of the journey taken by D’Andrea helped to highlight the elements that R&D is concentrating on: narrow web; the qualitative growth of flexography; waterless offset; modularity and power performance of machines; inline technology (RFID, holograms…); production control systems.
Various new features regarding machines
As regards machine development, the expert’s attention rested on gearless transmission, cylinders with sleeves and the evolution in controls. Today in fact, integrated independent servomotors feature as the top in automation, capable of moving each pin of the components of the print unit in a dedicated manner. This leads to improved controls during the print run (pressure, settings memory) and in particular better handling of the pressing process, defining the various print stages according to the required set-up (plate + adhesive). As far as the sleeves are concerned, the new feature consists in their entry into narrow web, with advantages in the start-up and pre register phase. The plates in turn are benefiting from the increase in quality due to the direct engraving of the same, the use of “friendly” solvents and the evolution of radiation drying, that requires no more than 20 minutes; it is compatible with any solvent and can be used with all types of plate.
New tools for color control
On the subject of color control, Stefano D’Andrea indicated the availability of spectrophotometers that are easier to use (they can also be set via Internet), as well as more accurate and versatile, and the devising of speed densitometers, applied on machines for inline readings, now enabling a more accurate control of color print errors (and the prevention of the same).
More precisely, the spectrophotometer enables the creation of color formulas, even special ones and this without keeping a color database; the administration of ink remains; control of the four color process (ISO 12647) and the color differences (DE*2000, DE*94, DE CMC); transfer of information at the preprint stage for administrating the separations. In turn the densometer measures the density of the main print colors and shows all its usefulness when the images have been separated on the basis of the color and the substrate. This tool can now be simply installed online (these months have seen the first “retrofit” installations), guaranteeing 20 measures a second. The densometer is available with up to 4 measure heads and several chan nels (CMY + 6 special).

Cilindri anilox
Il gruppo Apex Europe (filiale italiana ad Olgiate Olona, VA) ha proposto i cilindri anilox incisi al laser, offerti nelle tre varianti: CO2, Ultracell e Ultracell Plus. Questi prodotti sono il frutto della combinazione dell’innovativa tecnologia di protezione al plasma (che consente di ottenere un rivestimento ceramico omogeno) e della tecnica di incisione UltraMelt (in grado di controllare l’intensità del raggio laser che incide le celle).
I cilindri anilox incisi al laser sono caratterizzati da una perfetta geometria della cella, che diventa più liscia e più resistente all’usura, e da una maggiore facilità di pulizia. L’elevata tensione superficiale di questi cilindri assicura inoltre un rilascio ottimale dell’ichiostro.
Anilox cylinders - The group Apex Europe (Italian branch at Olgiate Olona, VA) offers laser engraved anilox cylinders in three qualities: CO2, Ultracell and Ultracell Plus. These products are the result of combining innovative plasma protection technology (allowing for a homogenous ceramic coating) with the UltraMelt engraving process (for controlling the intensity of the laser ray engraving the cells). The perfectly shaped cell of laser engraved anilox cylinders is smoother, with a longer lifetime and superior cleaning characteristics. The cylinders’ high surface tension also ensures superior ink release capabilities.
Controllo di etichette
Nel controllo e ispezione di etichette si è distinta anche Avt (per l’Italia, Idea & Comunicazione) con Helios. Questo sistema (che può essere montato in linea sulle macchine da stampa o essere usato off-line) identifica tramite telecamera variazioni di colore o altre caratteristiche (anche lo sporco) rispetto a un’immagine master.
Control of labels - Avt has also distinguished itself in control and inspection of labels (for Italy Idea & Comunicazione) with Helios. This system (that can be assembled in line on print machines or be used off-line) identifies via camera the color variations of other characteristics (also dirt) using a master image.
Film autoadesivi
Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe ha lanciato una nuova generazione di film trasparenti autoadesivi formulati per offrire prestazioni elevate nel campo dell’etichettatura.
Rispetto ai tradizionali film di PP e PE i nuovi film assicurano trasparenza e “conformabilità” (soprattutto nel caso di superfici curve) nonché stabilità della stampa e possibilità di lavorare su impianti ad alta velocità.
Tra le Specialty ricordiamo le etichette Fasson Durables, applicabili su componenti automotive e prodotti elettronici di consumo.
Pressure sensitive film - Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe has launched a new generation of clear pressure sensitive films formulated for outstanding performance in the field of labeling.
Where traditional PP and PE films have been used, the new films ensure clarity and conformability (especially over curved surfaces) coupled with press stability and working on high-speed systems.
One of the concern’s specialties is Fasson Durables, for labeling automotive components and consumer electronics.
Fustellatura laser - Cartes Equipment, specializzata nella produzione di sistemi di taglio e fustellatura laser, si è presentata in fiera con diverse novità. Tra queste ricordiamo: i sistemi di taglio laser e stampa hot foil in linea; le macchine per la stampa a caldo che lavorano con bobine di larghezza 350 mm; “Dual Laser”, fustellatrice laser a doppia testa, in grado di raggiungere una velocità di taglio di 50 m/min; SN160, macchina per la stampa serigrafica da bobina a bobina; macchina serigrafica a due colori, da bobina a bobina, per inchiostri UV.
Laser die cutting - Cartes Equipment, specialised in cutting and laser die cutting systems, presented more innovative machinery at the fair. The machinery included: in line laser cutting and hot foil stamping machines; 350 mm web width hot foil stamping machines; “Dual Laser” twin head laser die cutter with 50 metre per minute cutting speed; SN160 reel-to-reel screen printing machine; 2 colour reel-to-reel screen print machine for UV inks.
Flexo modulare
CMR ha proposto la nuova macchina da stampa flexo modulare “Thunder 1”, in grado di raggiungere velocità fino a 250 m/min. Questo modello è caratterizzato da: unità di stampa rimovibili; fustellatura rotativa; stampa hot foil; sistema QSS (Quick Sleeve Change); azionamento gear less; essiccazione UV; racle a camera chiusa; stampa da bobina a bobina; controllo di registro automatico; ispezione video della bobina. La Thunder 1 può stampare etichette autoadesive e non, foil di alluminio, imballaggi flessibili, carta e cartone, accoppiati PVC/alluminio.
Modular flexo printer - CMR offers the new modular flexo printer “Thunder 1”, reaching speeds of up to 250 m/min.
This model has the following characteristics: removable print units; rotary die cutting; hot foil stamping; QSS (Quick Sleeve Change) system; gearless drive; UV curing; closed chamber doctor blades; reel to reel printing; automatic register control; web video inspection. Thunder 1 can print on self-adhesive and non-adhesive labels, aluminium foil, flexible packaging materials, paper and card, and PVC/aluminium laminates.
Stampa di etichette
DMR Elettromeccanica costruisce macchine da stampa per etichette autoadesive, fustellatrici per etichette, tagliafoglietti elettronici e accessori.
Il modello Seri Roll stampa etichette in serigrafia da bobina a bobina o da bobina a foglio, ed è disponibile nei formati 250x250 mm e 330x250 mm.
Si tratta di una macchina modulare integrabile con altre unità opzionali, tra cui gruppo di svolgitura automatico, gruppo di stampa serigrafico fino a un massimo di 5 unità, gruppo essiccazione UV e IR, gruppo per il trasferimento del film a caldo, gruppo di fustellatura piana o semirotativa ecc.
Label printing - DMR Elettromeccanica builds printing machines for self-adhesive labels, label die-cutting machines, electronic sheet cutters and accessories.
The Seri Roll model is a silk-screen printing machine for labels, reel-to-reel or reel-to-sheet, and is available in 250x250 mm and 330x250 mm formats.
This is a modular machine integratable with other optional units, including an automatic unit, a silk-screen printing unit up to a max of 5 units, a UV and IR dryer unit, a hot foil stamping unit, a flat-bed or semirotary die cut unit, etc.
Stampa middle-web - Nelle macchine da stampa della fascia middle-web (dai 500 mm ai 700 mm) Drent ha interessato i visitatori con il suo sistema VSOP (Variable Sleeve Offset Printing) che impiega delle sleeve per cambiare il formato senza modificare tutto il gruppo stampa. Drent presentava la Vision, macchina di fascia 520 completamente servodrive, che raggiunge i 400 m/min.
Middle-web machines - In the middle-web width of print machines, that go from 500 mm to 700 mm, we find Drent, that interested visitors with its VSOP (Variable Sleeve Offset Printing) that uses sleeves for changing format without modifying the entire print unit. Drent presented Vision, 520 range completely servodriven machine, that reaches 400 m/min.
Offset rotativa
A Labelexpo hanno avuto riscontri estremamente positivi sia Galileo sia Serigon della Franchini, nota per le macchine serigrafiche piane e di finitura semirotative.
Galileo (nella foto) è una macchina offset rotativa da 330 o 440 mm, che consente di aggiungere gruppi flexo, roto, serigrafici, oro a caldo e a freddo; può raggiungere velocità fino a 150 m/min e dispone del tavolo CPC per il controllo dei calamai durante la produzione. Serigon è invece una macchina da stampa serigrafica modulare nel formato 340x340, dotata dell’innovativo sistema “stop&go” brevettato, per sfruttare su tutti gli elementi macchina - dal gruppo oro a caldo al gruppo fustella - i vantaggi del sistema semirotativo senza rinunciare alle prestazioni di una rotativa.
Rotary offset - At Labelexpo both Galileo and Serigon by Franchini proved popular, known the whole world over for the flat screenprinting and semirotary finishing machines. Galileo (see photo) is a 330 and 440 mm rotary offset machine, that can have also flexo, roto, screenprint, hot or cold gilding units; it can attain speeds of up to 150 m/min and has a CPC table for controlling the decks during production.
Serigon in turn is a 340x340 modular screenprint machine, fitted with an innovatory patented “stop&go” system, that enables the exploitation of the advantages of the semirotary system without missing out on the performances of a press.
Stampa a fascia stretta
Gidue, nella fascia narrow web, ha presentato i-Combat in versione servodrive. In questa macchina priva di ingranaggi, tutte le unità di stampa dispongono di sette servomotori, permettendo di effettuare il controllo remoto di pressioni, registro, controllo della tensione del supporto, memorizzazione dei lavori in archivio per le ristampe.
L’Intelligent Register, montato su tutte le macchine, permette di realizzare il controllo totale del registro anche senza l’intervento dell’operatore.
Nella fascia di stampa più grande Gidue ha, inoltre, lanciato la nuova Athena, una macchina tutta digitale, gearless, che usa sleeve sia per il cilindro stampa sia per l’anilox. Su ogni gruppo stampa dispone di 8 servomotori indipendenti, che controllano tutte le variabili di stampa.
Può stampare dal film da 15 micron fino al cartoncino da 600 g/m2 e viene fornita nelle fasce 430, 530, 630 e 730 mm con velocità fino a 270 m/min.
Narrow web print - Gidue, in the narrow web range, presented i-Combat in the servodrive version. In this gearless machines, all the print units have seven servomotors, enabling the remote pressure, register and substrate tension control as well as storage of work in memory for reprinting.
The Intelligent Register, assembled on all the machines, enables the total control of register without intervention of the operator. In the wider web print range Gidue has also launched the new Athena, an entirely digital, gearless machine, that uses sleeves both for the print cylinder as well as for the anilox.
On each print unit it has 8 independent servomotors, that control all the print variables. It can print the most different materials, from 15 micron film up to 600 g/m2 cardboard and comes in the 430, 530, 630 and 730 mm ranges with speeds of up to 270 m/min.
CtP per offset e flexo
Basato sul consolidato CtP Thermoflex, il nuovo Thermoflex Narrow messo a punto da Kodak consente l’esposizione di lastre offset oltre che di lastre e pellicole flessografiche e tipografiche.
Gli operatori possono caricare lastre di qualunque formato, fino a un massimo di 762x762 mm per le lastre flexo e 762x744 mm per le lastre offset e utilizzare poi la nuova opzione di esposizione simultanea di più lastre.
CtP for offset and flexo - Based on consolidated Thermoflex CtP, the new Thermoflex Narrow devised by Kodak enables the exposure of offset plates as well as flexographical and typographical plates and film. The operators can mount plates of any format, up to a max of 762x762 mm for flexo plates and 762x744 mm for offset plates and also use the new option of simultaneous exposure of more than one plate.
Trattamento degli scarti
Convogliamento, compattazione e trattamento degli scarti di produzione nell’industria cartaria, della plastica e degli imballaggi.
Questo l’ambito in cui opera Kongskilde.
Fra i sistemi messi a punto dall’azienda, in fiera è stato proposto il sistema Venturi, ideato per la movimentazione delicata di materiali leggeri e scarti in forma di lunghe strisce e caratterizzato dalla capacità di trasportare i prodotti senza che essi vengano in contatto con qualsiasi parte in movimento del sistema.
Può trattare anche bottiglie di plastica, trasportandole dalle macchine di produzione direttamente al magazzino.
Il funzionamento è semplice: il prodotto viene aspirato nel sistema e condotto al punto di aspirazione senza che sia necessario ricorrere a particolari accorgimenti per l’alimentazione.

Waste handling - Kongskilde specialises in conveying, compacting and cleaning waste products of the paper, plastics and packaging industries.
The Venturi system is one of the systems devised by the company for the delicate handling of light materials and long strips of waste, and can be used for the transit of products without them coming into contact with any moving parts of the system. It can also handle plastic bottles, conveying them from the production machines straight to the warehouse.
Operation is straightforward: the product is inserted into the system and conveyed to the suction point without the need of fitting any particular devices for the feed.
A variety of Venturi systems can be fitted on the same conduit for conveying large volumes or for the transit of waste over long distances.
Flexo per etichette
MPS (Multi Print System, commercializzata in Italia da Bama) è un’azienda olandese di recente fondazione, che si è guadagnata importanti riconoscimenti nel panorama delle macchine da stampa per etichette. A Labelexpo presentava la linea EF per il film e la linea EC per l’adesivo, entrambe flessografiche e interamente servodrive, a garanzia di qualità e prestazioni. Principali vantaggi: gli avviamenti economici (in questa fase la velocità non supera i 5 m/min) e la tecnologia “punti nitidi” ottenuta grazie a una particolare configurazione del gruppo stampa che favorisce una migliore inchiostrazione e un minor deterioramento dei punti minimi del clichè.
Flexo for labels - MPS (Multi Print System, traded in Italy by Bama) is a recently founded Dutch company, that has won important recognition in the field of machines for printing labels. At Labelexpo it presented the EF line for film and the EC line for adhesives, both flexographic and entirely servodriven, to guarantee quality and performance. Main advantages: economical start-up (in this phase speed is not over 5 m/min) and “clear dot” technology, obtained thanks to a special configuration of the print unit that favours a better inking and lesser deterioration of the smallest dots on the plate.
Nastri di tessuto
Il Nastrificio di Cassano realizza nastri di tessuto per la stampa curando la tessitura dei filati, la spalmatura dei tessuti, l'adesivizzazione, il taglio e la confezione dei prodotti finiti. NDC fornisce soluzioni per ogni problema di etichettatura e offre una varietà di nastri in tessuto di acetato, poliestere, nylon e cotone idonei a qualsiasi sistema di stampa.
L’azienda di Cassano Magnago (VA) ha installato di recente un nuovo impianto di spalmatura per prodotti autoadesivi. Dotato di testata di spalmatura polivalente, raggiunge i 100 m/min.
Fabric ribbons - Nastrificio di Cassano produces fabric ribbons for printing, by dressing and weaving the threads, coating the fabrics, applying adhesive, cutting and then packing the finished products. NDC provides solutions for all labeling problems and offers a wide variety of acetate, polyester, nylon and cotton fabric ribbons suitable for all printing systems.
The concern of Cassano Magnago (VA) recently installed a new coating system for pressure sensitive products. Equipped with a polyvalent coating head, it can reach speeds of up to 100 m/min.
Sistemi di ispezione
Prati, protagonista nel settore dei tavoli di controllo, ha completato la consolidata gamma di macchine con il lancio di Jupiter Varycontrol per l’ispezione del monostrato (dal film al booklet, dall’adesivo al cartoncino). Il modello Jupiter Supercontrol, invece, è ideale per etichettifici esigenti, che effettuano un controllo totale del processo, dalla stampa alla finitura.
Inspection systems - Prati, leading light in the sector of control tables, has completed its consolidated range of machines with the launch of the Jupiter Varycontrol for the inspection of the monolayer (from film to booklet, from adhesive to cardboard). The Jupiter Supercontrol model in turn is ideal for existing labeling concerns, that carry out total process control, from print to finish.
Regolatore di tensione
Il controllore T-one, caratterizzato da semplicità di utilizzo e dimensioni ridotte, consente di regolare il tensionamento utilizzando le celle di carico o il ballerino. Realizzato da Re Controlli Industriali, prevede due modalità di lavoro: in coppia, tramite la regolazione della coppia di un freno su svolgitore o di una frizione su avvolgitore, oppure in velocità, tramite la regolazione della velocità del motore di un traino. Altra proposta il sistema di videoispezione Revision, integrato con una serie di funzioni innovative: elevata densità di integrazione con consumi inferiori; zoom ottico da 20X più potente e veloce; PC industriale più compatto; possibilità di collegare due videocamere allo stesso PC e di controllare bianca e volta utilizzando la funzione split-screen.
Tension control system - The T-one control system, simple to use and compact, enables tension control using the load cells or dancing roller. The device, produced by Re Controlli Industriali, has two regulation modes: in torque, through the adjustment of the torque of a brake on the unwinder or a clutch on the rewinder, or up to speed, through the adjustment of the speed of the nip roll drive. The concern also offers the Revision video inspection system, that includes a series of innovatory functions: high integration density with lesser consumption; stronger more powerful 20X optical zoom; more compact industrial PC; possible connecting up to two video cameras to the same PC and control of face and verso using the split screen function.

Silicone substrates - Rossella offers a wide range of silicone substrates, either in full width or in strips, with all kinds of release.
The concern of Caronno Pertusella has solvent free silicone injection machines, digitally controlled machinery and X-ray analysing equipment. Rossella can handle a wide range of paper and plastic films, coating silicone on substrates with a minimum thickness of 0.4 g/ m2.
Rossil products are guaranteed by sophisticated programs on all manufacturing levels and are UNI EN 29002 certified.
Etichettatura pallet
Sato ha puntato l’attenzione su FlagTagSolutionsTM, sistema per l’etichettatura RFID dei pallet. La speciale architettura delle etichette UPM Rafsec FlagTag (con antenna a bandiera) impiegate dal sistema assicura la perfetta leggibilità del tag, a prescindere dalla posizione dell’etichetta sul pallet o dal contenuto dello stesso.
Nell’ambito delle stampanti portatili sono stati presentati due nuovi modelli della serie Mbi, parte della famiglia “Compact”, caratterizzata da leggerezza e semplicità d’uso. A completare la gamma espositiva i motori di stampa della nuova serie S (Kendo e Judo).
Pallet labeling - Sato placed FlagTagSolutionsTM, an RFID pallet labeling system, in the limelight. The special architecture of UPM Rafsec FlagTag labels used by the system (with “flag” antenna) ensures perfect readability of the tag, regardless of where the label is located on the pallet or the contents of the same.
In the field of portable printers two new models of the “Compact” family’s Mbi series were shown, distinguished by lightness and ease of use. The new S series of print motors (Kendo and Judo) completed the range on display.
Inchiostri per etichette
La divisione Narrow Web Inks di XSYS Print Solutions ha presentato una nuova serie di inchiostri che va a completare la già ampia famiglia di prodotti per stampa flexo, flexo UV, offset UV e serigrafia UV.

Inks for labels - The Narrow Web Inks division of XSYS Print Solutions presented a new series of inks that completes the already broad family of products for flexo, UV flexo, UV offset and UV screenprint. Used singly or in combinations, the XSYS inks are suited for a variety of applications, including self-adhesive-, wrap-around and in-mould labels, flexible packaging and folding cases.

Narrow web inks - Sun Chemical has announced its launch of Solaris™, a complete line of products formulated for narrow web printing.
Sun Chemical has for some time been present in this sector, but has planned to broaden its own presence in Europe offering a complete line of products for all printers whatever their size or location, supporting them with a high level of service.
In the past Sun Chemical has used Onyx as a name for identifying its narrow web products in Great Britain. Now by way of Solaris™, Sun Chemical has created a group dedicated to satisfying all their customer’s technical demands under one “roof” (from the flexible packaging, cardboard and shrink sleeve sectors) this in Europe, the USA and other countries.

Workflow per il packaging
Artwork Systems ha lanciato il workflow Odystar 2.5 in abbinamento a un modulo plug-in - in PDF - che consente ad Adobe Illustrator di operare senza restrizioni in un ambiente PDF 1.5. Ideale per il settore del packaging e delle etichette, Odystar (che si aggiunge ai prodotti già esistenti ArtPro e Nexus), è stato introdotto nel mercato del commerciale/publishing a Drupa 2004. Rispetto a Nexus, ideato per lavori complessi, la nuova versione di Odystar è ideale per i lavori più standardizzati e può essere facilmente integrata con Rip e workflow di altri produttori.
Odystar, che gira sotto piattaforma OSX, offre un’ampia gamma di strumenti, tra cui correzione preflight, trapping, step and repeat, prove e retinatura.
Workflow per il packaging - Artwork Systems has launched the workflow Odystar 2.5 combined with a plug-in module - in PDF - that enables Adobe Illustrator to work without restrictions in a PDF 1.5 environment.
Ideal for the packaging and labeling sector, Odystar (an addition to the existing products ArtPro and Nexus), was introduced in the commercial/publishing market at Drupa 2004.
Compared to Nexus, created for complex works, the new version of Odystar is ideal for the more standardised works and can be easily integrated with Rip and workflow of other producers.
Odystar, that runs on OSX platform, offers a broad range of tools including preflight correction, trapping, step and repeat, tests and screening.
Spalmatura e taglio
Il Gruppo Bobst ha presentato alcune novità in materia di tecnologie di spalmatura e taglio ribobinatura sviluppate da Rotomec, Atlas e Titan per il settore etichette.
Rotomec costruisce impianti di spalmatura e accoppiamento con tecnologia hot melt e macchine per la spalmatura di silicone e adesivi base acqua che utilizzano vari sistemi di spalmatura e di essiccazione secondo l’applicazione.
Il costruttore inglese Atlas produce taglierine primarie per bobine di accoppiato (diametro 2 m), nonché altri sistemi per produzioni più piccole. Sono dotate dell’innovativa tecnica di avvolgimento per film plastici/sintetici con spessore 60 micron e velocità oltre i 600 m/min. La gamma Titan comprende la taglierina SR8 dotata di sistema “cantilever” e alberi “quick shaft” con avvolgimento differenziale e rapidi cambi lavoro per brevi tirature.
Coating and slitting labels - Bobst Group presented several innovations in coating and slitting & rewinding technologies for labelstock from Rotomec, Atlas and Titan.
Rotomec constructs coating and laminating lines with hot melt technology and lines for silicone and water-based adhesive coating with different coating and drying systems adapted to each different application.
The British constructor Atlas manufactures primary slitter rewinders for 2 metre wide laminated webs, as well as systems for smaller production sizes. The rewinders include the new rewinding technique for filmic/synthetic material with a thickness of 60 microns and speeds in excess of 600 m/min.
Titan’s product range includes the SR8 cantilever slitter rewinder with Quick Shaft differential rewinds and rapid job changeover for shorter production runs.
Migliora la qualità di stampa
Presentatasi in fiera col motto “Cambia la tua superficie”, Ciba ha proposto la tecnologia Prime IT™, in grado di migliorare la qualità di stampa e l’adesione su tutti i supporti plastici attraverso una modificazione superficiale durevole. Le applicazioni includono la stampa e la laccatura di imballaggi rigidi e flessibili, “smart card”, film accoppiati e supporti metallizzati. Prime IT™ cambia in modo permanente la superficie del supporto plastico aumentando la tensione superficiale. Può essere applicato su rulli standard incisi (per flexo o rotocalco) e dopo la rimozione del carrier il supporto può essere immediatamente stampato o immagazzinato.
Improving print quality - With “Change your surface” as its theme at the fair, Ciba presented Prime IT™ technology for improving print quality and adhesion to all plastic substrates with long-lasting surface modification.
Applications include printing and coating on flexible and rigid packaging, smart cards, film laminates and metalized substrates. Prime IT™ permanently changes the surface of the plastic substrate by increasing its surface tension. It can be applied on standard engraved rolls (flexo or gravure) and after carrier removal the substrate can be immediately printed or stored.
Siliconatura
Goldschmidt GmbH (Essen, D), società della multinazionale tedesca Degussa AG con filiale italiana a Pandino (CR), ha proposto i siliconi serie RC Tego®, studiati per l’etichettatura.
Ideali per lavorazioni “in-house”, non richiedono l’impiego di catalizzatori in fase di reticolazione: si evitano quindi i rischi di inibizione e di cessione riscontrabili con altri sistemi siliconici.
La scelta del substrato non è condizionata da eventuali impurità presenti nello stesso: si può così siliconare anche la comune carta da scrivere o quella riciclata. I siliconi Goldschmidt reticolano persino su carta termica o stampata; altra applicazione: la siliconatura di film sottili termosensibili e di etichette no-label look.
Siliconisation - Goldschmidt GmbH (Essen, D), part of the German multinational company Degussa AG, with an Italian branch at Pandino (CR), offers the RC Tego® series of silicones for the field of labeling.
Tego® RC silicones, ideal for “in-house” processing, do not require catalysers during curing: it is therefore possible to avoid risks of inhibition and ceding found with other silicone systems.
The choice of substrate is not conditioned by the presence of possible impurities within it: it is therefore possible to siliconise ordinary writing paper or recycled paper.
Goldschmidt’s silicones even reticulate thermal or printed paper; another field for application: the siliconisation of thin thermo-sensitive films and no-label look labels.

The concern of Barlassina (MI) offers rewinders with unwinders, rewinders for small printers, label counters, vertical slitters, small and double manual dispensers. The team of designers, with the help of suppliers, can design and manufacture devices based on specific customer demands.
CtP flexo
Esko-Graphics ha lanciato il nuovo Cyrel Digital Imager (CDI) Spark 2120, un CtP flexo di piccole dimensioni ideale per la banda stretta.
Realizzato per esporre lastre fotopolimeriche, film ablativo o lastre offset a base poliestere di formato fino a 533x508 mm, il nuovo CtP è ideale per le etichette.
Il CDI Spark 2120 (risoluzioni variabili da 2000 a 2540 dpi) utilizza lo stesso sistema di esposizione a tamburo esterno degli altri modelli CDI e può esporre il formato massimo in 16 min. a 2000 dpi.
Nuovo anche il CDI Spark 4260, un CtP flexo per lastre di formato fino a 1067x1524 mm e impiegato dalle fotolito specializzate nel packaging flessibile e in applicazioni su cartone ondulato (risoluzioni 2000-4000 dpi).

Si tratta di una rotativa offset ad elevate prestazioni, che può mettere in linea il gruppo rotocalco. Il gruppo stampa è costruito in Heidelberg, a garanzia di qualità, è interamente servodrive e può raggiungere i 160 m/min.
Offset press - Represented in Italy by Somaca, Gallus (Heidelberg Group) put on show its innovatory RCS 330 that completes a much appreciated ranged of print machines. The RCS 330 is a high performances offset press, that can align the rotogravure unit. The print unit is built at Heidelberg, to guarantee the quality, is fully servodriven and can reach 160 m/min.
Densitometria in linea
GretagMacbeth, leader mondiale nelle tecnologie di misurazione e gestione del colore, commercializzato in Italia da ColorConsulting, ha presentato vipPAQ, l’unico sistema di misurazione della densitometria in linea realizzato per il controllo della produzione e della qualità sulle macchine da stampa rotative narrow web o di fascia più larga. VipPAQ riduce i tempi di preparazione per la stampa e consente agli operatori di rilevare gli errori in anticipo.
In-line densitometry - GretagMacbeht, world leader in the technology of measuring and administering color, traded in Italy by ColorConsulting, has presented vipPAQ, the only in-line densitometry measuring system, made for checking the production and the quality on narrow or broader web rotary machines. VipPAQ reduces the preparation times for printing and enables operators to notice errors ahead of time.
Finishing digitale
HP Indigo ha presentato il Digital Laser Workflow, prima soluzione interamente digitale per gli stampatori di etichette.
Abbinato alla macchina a bobina HP Indigo press ws4050, questo workflow è stato sviluppato insieme a Esko-Graphics e A.B. Graphic International.
Il software di prestampa, basato sul workflow modulare Scope di Esko-Graphics, integra infatti un plug-in della A.B. Graphic International che programma le informazioni di taglio per il sistema DigiCon.
Digital finishing - HP Indigo presented the Digital Laser Workflow, first entirely digital solution for label printers.
Linked to HP reel Indigo press ws4050 machines, this workflow has been developed along with Esko-Graphics and A.B. Graphic International.
The preprint software, based on Esko-Graphics Scope modular workflow, in fact includes a plug-in by A.B. Graphic International that programs the cutting information for the DigiCon system.
Film di PP
La società austriaca Lenzing Plastics ha proposto film di polipropilene espanso per etichette, caratterizzati da bassa densità e superficie liscia.
Tutti i film sono offerti con trattamento corona per offrire un’ottima stampabilità e buona adesione, importante soprattutto per le carte termiche. Sono quindi indicati per l’etichettatura di frutta e ortaggi.
Questi film sono disponibili in spessori di 100, 110 e 120 micron, con larghezze variabili da un minimo di 150 a un massimo di 1240 mm.
PP films - The Austrian company Lenzing Plastics offers expanded polypropylene films of low density and with smooth surface for labels. The films are all offered with corona treatment for excellent printability and good adhesive properties, especially important for thermal papers, and are therefore intended for labeling fruit and vegetables.
These films are available in thicknesses of 100, 110 and 120 micron, with widths between a minimum of 150 and a maximum of 1240 mm.
Stampa film ed etichette
Oltre che produttore, Franchini è anche importatore in Italia di Mark-Andy e Comco, entrambi presenti direttamente in fiera.
Lo stand Mark-Andy, in particolare, si è fatto notare per dimensioni, ma anche per le due linee XP5000 e LP3000. La prima è la macchina di ultima generazione, completamente servodrive, che coniuga alta produttività con ottima qualità di stampa; è fornita del controllo completo del lavoro in macchina, con la possibilità di registrare i parametri di stampa.
Inoltre è possibile installare in linea il gruppo rotativo serigrafico fornito da Stork ma progettato ad hoc per Mark-Andy e l’oro a caldo e a freddo, utilizzando il sistema Quick-change (cioè senza fermare la produzione). La macchina può raggiungere una velocità di 230 m/min ed è in grado di stampare stampare etichette (anche se le prestazioni migliori sono raggiunte nella stampa di film plastico.
LP3000 è la più venduta e affidabile delle Mark-Andy, con le stesse prestazioni della XP5000 ma con avanzamento a ingranaggi. In fiera ha attirato molti visitatori mostrando la possibilità di stampare etichette RFID in un unico passaggio. La vera novità, però, è consistita nella stampa dell’inchiostro conduttivo della XINK in un gruppo flexo, con applicazione successiva del chip e controllo dell’efficienza del Tag.
Printing film and label - As well as being a manufacturer, Franchini also imports Mark-Andy and Comco to Italy, both directly present at the fair. The Mark-Andy stand in particular was noticeable for its size, but also for its two XP5000 and LP3000 lines. The former is a latest generation machine, completely servodriven, that combines high productivity with excellent print qualities; it comes with a complete control of the work in machine, with the possibility of recording the print parameters.
As well as that the screenprint rotary unit supplied by Stork but specially designed for Mark-Andy and hot and cold gilding, using the Quick-change system (that is without stopping production).
This machine can reach a speed of 230 m/min and can print labels but can also offer optimum performance printing plastic film.
LP3000 is the best-selling and most reliable of the Mark-Andy machines, with the same performance as the XP5000 but with gear drive. At the fair it drew many visitors showing the possibility of printing RFID labels in one single run. Its real new feature, though, consists in the print of conductive ink by XINK in a flexo unit, with the successive application of the chip and control of the efficiency of the Tag.
Flexo e offset
Nilpeter, leader nelle macchine a banda stretta sia flexo che offset, rappresentata in Italia da Polipress, ha presentato la vincente linea FA-line; una flexo nella fascia dai 330 ai 508 mm, tutta servodrive e con ottime prestazioni. La FA-3300 si adatta perfettamente alla stampa su carta adesiva e su film monostrato a partire da 10 micron.
Flexo and offset - Nilpeter, leader in narrow web machines both flexo and offset, represented in Italy by Polipress, presented its successful FA-line; a flexo in the 330 to 508 mm width, all servodriven and with excellent performance.
The FA-3300 is perfectly suited for printing on adhesive paper and on monolayer film starting from 10 microns.
Macchina a banda stretta
Omet ha esposto Flexy-S, una nuova macchina da stampa a banda stretta con due servomotori brushless per ciascun gruppo stampa, di cui uno specifico per l’asse del portacliché. Flexy-S stampa con passi infinitamente variabili e assicura un miglior controllo del registro rispetto alla precedente versione a trasmissione meccanica, assicurando anche pre-registro, controllo automatico di registro stampa e fustella. Ma la vera novità installata sulla Flexy-S è il gruppo di fustellatura Twin-cut per etichette autoadesive, che permette di produrre tutti i formati di stampa senza dover effettuare il cambio dei cilindri magnetici, con un notevole risparmio di costi di produzione e tempi di approvvigionamento.
Omet ha inoltre presentato il gruppo serigrafico rotativo Cast, anch’esso con motorizzazione indipendente, montabile in linea su qualsiasi macchina, oltre a un nuovo gruppo stampa rotocalco, intercambiabile ai gruppi flexo-UV in qualsiasi posizione della macchina, e al nuovo Holo-foil King che permette sia l’applicazione in linea di ologrammi sia il deposito del film metallizzato per gruppo hot foil (foil saver), senza scarti del costoso materiale.
Narrow web press - Omet brought to the fair Flexy-S, a new types of narrow web printing press with two brushless servomotors for each print unit, one specifically for the alignment of the plate mount.
Flexy-S enables printing with infinitely variable pitches and ensures a better control of register compared to the preceding versions with mechanical transmission, also ensuring the function of pre-register and automatic control of print and die register. But the real new feature installed on the Flexy-S is the Twin-cut diecutting unit for the production of self-adhesive labels, that enables the production of all print formats without having to carry out the change of the magnetic cylinders, with a considerable saving in production costs and procurement time.

Roll Cover carries out both “corona” treatment and lacquering for sophisticated production. Coating and lamination, even for multilayered products, are done at a width of 1,500 mm. Cutting and rewinding are carried out by machines for providing customers with their desired roll widths.
Semirotativa offset
Tra le novità in fiera va ricordata Brava, della spagnola Rotatek: una macchina da stampa semirotativa offset, di fascia 450, che all’occorrenzna si può trasformare in rotativa. Ricordiamo ancora che il sistema semirotativo permette di stampare tutti i formati senza cambiare i gruppi stampa, penalizzando però le prestazioni.
Il rotativo è sicuramente più veloce, ma costringe a cambiare il gruppo stampa per modificare il formato o il passo.
Semi rotary offset - Among the new features we cite Brava from the Spanish concern Rotatek. This is a semi rotary offset print machines, 450 web width, that if need be can be turned into a rotary press.

Montaclichè
I montaclichè Vision Plus e Star HT, progettati e realizzati da ST Converting, sono dotati di un sistema autoadattativo (con messa a fuoco automatica del cilindro in funzione dei vari diametri o sviluppi) e di autoapprendimento.
PhotoSplit, il software di gestione e acquisizione immagini controlla la macchina montacliché e le telecamere. Esso gestisce fino a otto telecamere e permette di visualizzare sul monitor l'immagine acquisita dei cliché, con split automatico. L'elevato ingrandimento della telecamera (fino a 220X) e la visualizzazione a colori consentono di allineare perfettamente il cliché. Ma non è tutto.
Il sistema Virtual Image, originale sistema di prova stampa virtuale, permette di montare cliché privi di crocino. Infatti è possibile salvare in memoria le sequenze del montaggio di un cliché e caricarne l'immagine in trasparenza, in modo da poter allineare il nuovo cliché sull'immagine virtuale.
Plate mounters - The Vision Plus and Star HT plate mounters, designed and produced by ST Converting, are equipped with a self-adaptive and self-learning system (whereby the cylinder does not need to be lifted for the cameras to detect its diameters or developments).
PhotoSplit image capturing and management software controls the plate mounter and the cameras. It can manage up to eight cameras and allows the images captured to be viewed on the monitor with automatic split.
The magnification value (up to 220X) and color view allow the plate to be perfectly aligned.
And not only that. Virtual Image, an original virtual print testing system, can mount plates without marking crosses. In fact, the sequence of plate assembly procedures can be memorised and the plate’s image can be loaded in overlay, so as to position the new plate on the virtual image.
